Esty Quesada (Soy una Pringada) recommends a book that "captures the essence of the United States"

BarcelonaWhen she was little, Esty Quesada's dream was to go to the United States. "It was the only thing I wanted to do in my life and, as soon as I had some money, I bought the tickets to go on a trip". A week ago, the youtuber, actress, podcaster and writer presented at the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest the video of her latest trip to the United States, American SUP, an unscripted and unpretentious road movie guided by the trash spirit of Harmony Korine – it's shot with a 1997 handicam – which follows Quesada through the American Midwest on a semi-improvised route of death metal – or Morrisey – concerts, shooting galleries, themed restaurants, sculpture cemeteries, delirious monuments, and a prosthetic corpse shop.

Her fascination with American culture also extends to her literary tastes. Quesada recommends Bret Easton Ellis's first novel, Less than Zero, which Columna published in 1986 in Catalan with a translation by Carles Urritz and Carme Geronès. "It's an incredible book about a cocaine-addicted teenager who moves around Los Angeles, just existing," explains the youtuber, who also uses the alias Soy una Pringada. And she adds that Bret Easton Ellis "captures the essence of the United States very well".

The author of the controversial American Psycho – Quesada is also a fan of the film adaptation of this novel – and other works such as The Rules of Attraction or Lunar Park presented in his literary debut his credentials as a chronicler of the existential void of the United States. His portrait of the characters is almost an autopsy of the banality of lives adrift, without purpose or meaning, in a confused search for immediate pleasure.
