Classical on the beach with 'Mar i cel' and 'Carmen'
The Auditorium, the Liceu, and the Palau de la Música are participating in a new edition of the free "Clàssica a la playa" concerts.


BarcelonaThe musical Sea and sky; the opera Carmen; Three Spanish dances, by Enric Granados, and A Midsummer Night's Dream, by Felix Mendelssohn will be the stars of the free concerts that will take place on July 9 and 10 (9 pm) on the beach of San Sebastián, Barcelona. This is a new edition of Classic on the beach, an initiative of L'Auditori, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de la Música and Barcelona City Council, with the sponsorship of the La Caixa Foundation and the support of Casa Seat-Cupra, Hutchison Ports Best, El Corte Inglés and Aigües de Barcelona.
The concert on Wednesday, July 9th will begin with a Mendelssohn work performed by the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, conducted by Pablo Assante and Sergi Cuenca. They will then pay tribute to the Dagoll Dagom company, which will offer its final performance of the work on July 13th. Sea and sky at the Victoria TheaterThe choir and orchestra will perform a selection of pieces from the musical, such as Why I cried and Pirates' Anthem. In addition, there will be a special collaboration with Albert Guinovart (composer of the soundtrack of Sea and sky) and Pep Cruz and Àngels Gonyalons, who participated in the premiere of Dagoll's musical Dagom in 1988. The current cast of Sea and sky, with Jordi Garreta, Alexia Pascual, Abel García, and Clara Renom, among other artists. The concert will feature subtitles in Catalan, Spanish, and English.
The following day, Thursday, July 10, Ludovic Morlot will conduct the concert of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) and the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música. The repertoire will feature opera. Carmen, by Bizet, with the voices of mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé, soprano Mira Alkhovik, bass-baritone Marko Mimica and tenor Marcelo Puente. Before the selection of the most popular pieces by Carmen, the OBC will interpret Three Spanish dances, by Enric Granados, initially composed for piano in 1890 and orchestrated by Joan Lamote de Grignon in 1933.
Both concerts will take place on a stage measuring 26 metres wide by 17 metres deep, covered with a dome, and can be followed from. The space can accommodate 20,000 people and access can be obtained through two entrances: between the Club Natació Atlètic Barceloneta and the Club Natació Barcelona (CNB) and from the side of the CNB at stage level. They can also be followed through side screens and another on the beach, and will be broadcast live by Betevé and Catalunya Música.
