Aitana on Olympus: the consecration of the pop diva
The Olympic Stadium concert confirms the Catalan singer as one of the great figures of Spanish pop.
BarcelonaIt's twenty minutes past eight in the evening, and a sound coming from deep within shakes the stadium. On the dance floor, it's all lit-up phone screens and a shouting match to sing at the top of your lungs. February 6, the opening track of Aitana's latest album, which the singer chose to kick off her concert at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The audience, 50,000 strong, becomes an energetic beast that won't stop until forced to. The pop diva debuts with sold-out crowds dressed in blue and white, the same colors she's chosen to illustrate her new era, that of her fourth studio album: Blue room (2025, Universal Music).
The first songs are a learned tour of the stage. The horizontal screen projects close-ups of the singer, who faces the situation with determination. In some songs, she is accompanied by a group of twenty dancers who enhance each verse, and in others, she walks calmly around the stage, wearing a set of white fabrics that follows her figure. The first of the evening's collaborations is not long in coming: Ana Guerra, yet to be recovered. The bad guy, the first hit group after both of them appeared on Operación Triunfo. The second collaboration is with Josep Montero of Oques Grasses to sing the distant and cold ballad The people I love.
Aitana has released her latest album a few weeks ago, but Metamorphosis season It is not the presentation tour, but the celebration of the long list of achievements reached –Phone, You're going to stay, 11 reasons and Los Angeles–. Songs from the singer's four albums and also from the singles who has published works with artists such as Quevedo, Nicki Nicole, Rels B, Morat and Cali & El Dandee. There are also nods to ABBA, Avril Lavigne and Catalan pop-rock: Pep Sala and she sing together Crazy for you –a moment that surprises many attendees, who don't recognize the character until the first notes of the song–. The voices of the artists who are not performing today sound canned and slightly lower than Aitana's volume; so does the voice of the narrator who appears during the pauses that divide the show, moments in which there are changes in scenery, ofoutfit and stage positions –Music in the sky He sang it among the audience.
Aitana's confidence and comfort on stage become more assertive and striking as the concert progresses. The movements, which at first drew on a learned routine, end up being an explosion of sensuality that demonstrates her mastery of the space. Aitana takes the audience off its leash and knows how to calm it down when she plays a ballad. She knows how to tame it and is capable of stopping everything if she has something to say. The stage is her home, and she successfully leads the rise to Olympus in a short but productive musical career.
The nearly three-hour concert includes three costume changes and a spectacular stage display that, as the day darkens, unleashes unimaginable potential. The song selection is eclectic and sometimes with unnatural interludes, but the changes are quickly absorbed by a mesmerized audience. The perfect girl and Psychic connection will be the last songs of the party, a concert that, according to one attendee, "was on par with Coldplay."
