What has happened between Jude Law's daughter and the singer Chappell Roan?
The pop star's family has stated that a security guard of the pop star verbally abused the child
BarcelonaChappell Roan is one of the pop stars of the moment, but she has explained on more than one occasion that she doesn't particularly like fans and photographers approaching her in public spaces when she's not working. This past weekend, the Missouri singer was accused of being particularly belligerent with a young fan, an 11-year-old girl who turned out to be Jude Law's daughter and, at the same time, the stepdaughter of footballer Jorginho. The controversy began when the Flamengo midfielder posted a series of Instagram stories in which he claimed that the pop star's security service had been particularly unpleasant with Ada Law, whom he calls "daughter" but who is actually the daughter of Jude Law and Catherine Harding, Jorginho's current wife.
Harding and the 11-year-old girl were at a hotel in São Paulo to attend Lollapalooza Brasil, where Roan was performing. The family and the singer of The subway happened to be staying at the same hotel. According to Jorginho's version, when the girl saw her idol in the hotel restaurant during breakfast, she walked past the singer's table to check if it was her. The player assures that the girl did not interact with the singer at any point, but that, nevertheless, a security guard approached the minor and reprimanded her and her mother. "A big security guard went to their table while they were still having breakfast and started talking in an extremely aggressive way to my wife and my daughter, telling her [my wife] that she shouldn't allow my daughter to disrespect or harass other people," says the footballer in one of his Instagram posts. He also points out that the security guard said he would file a complaint with the hotel against the family, a threat that made the girl start to cry.
Following the controversy generated on social media, Chappell Roan has defended herself with a video she posted on Instagram. Among other things, she states that no one approached her and that at no point did she feel harassed by anyone. She also adds that the security guard who addressed the family is not part of her security team. "They didn't approach me. They weren't doing anything. It's unfair for security personnel to assume someone has bad intentions when they have no reason to believe so," says the singer of Hot to go. "I don't hate people who are fans of my music. I don't hate children. This is crazy. I'm sorry for the mother and the child that someone assumed they would do something and that I would feel uncomfortable. It makes me very sad. They didn't deserve it," she says.
The latest to explain her version of the story has been the girl's mother, Catherine Harding. The actress made a post on Instagram talking about the incident. According to her, the security guard scolded them and told her that she had to teach her daughter to respect people's privacy. Harding assures that she explained to the guard that the girl is used to being around famous people, as her stepfather is very popular in Brazil, and that, therefore, she is fully aware of which red lines she should not cross. "Did she [Chappell Roan] send him to do it? Again, I don't know – Harding says –. I'd like to believe not, but at the same time I think you have a responsibility to make sure that the people who work for you and act on your behalf are really acting on your behalf. Why would he do it if he didn't have that authority to do it? I don't know. If she does, it's obviously a problem because it represents her in a way that she doesn't want to be represented," she reflects.
Ada Law is the fourth daughter of Jude Law, who has had seven children with four different mothers (three sons with his first wife, Sadie Frost; one daughter with Samantha Burke; Ada Law with Christina Harding, and two more children with his current partner, Phillipa Coan). Jude Law and Catherine Harding dated for several months and became parents when their relationship was already broken. In 2019 Harding began dating Jorginho, with whom she had a son in 2020. In 2025 the couple got married.
