BarcelonaBurger King Spain has canceled its collaboration with the youtuber Galician The Xokas has removed his menu from the Grand King campaign. The decision comes after the controversy generated by several comments from the content creator in recent days.
The latest in a long list of controversies has erupted following a live stream in which the Galician content creator responded to a user by stating that he had earned "more in one Burger King promotion" than his parents had "in twenty years of work." The phrase, logically, provoked an avalanche of criticism and reactions calling on the chain to end the collaboration.
In a statement published on social media, Burger King states that the streamer's statements "in no way represent the values" of the brand and apologizes to those who may have felt offended. In any case, the campaign will continue with the menus of Marta Díaz, Marina Rivers and Peldanyos.
This controversy and others
The truth is that this is not the only controversy starring El Xokas in recent days. The streamer has also been heavily criticized for comments about the actress Ester Expósito. During a Twitch live stream, he assured that it is "not worth it" to date her "because of her political thinking", and added: "It is better to be with a 6", rating the actress's physique and comparing her to his partner, the also streamer Zeling, whom he placed "a thousand times above".
The statements about Expósito provoked a public response from the former minister Irene Montero, who first ridiculed him on social media with the message "He would never be with Ester Expósito" and, subsequently, accused him of valuing women "as if they were a number" or "an object you choose in the market". According to Montero, the content creator defends a model of woman "submissive, who does not contradict him or elaborate her own thinking".
Added to all of this was the dissemination by El Xokas of a photomontage in which the Spanish national team's forward Mikel Oyarzabal appeared with the body of Adolf Hitler after the victory against France, a publication that also generated an avalanche of criticism on social networks. All this succession of controversies has once again placed him at the center of public debate and has ended up costing him one of his main commercial collaborations.
