Amaia Montero, of La Oreja de Van Gogh, turns 50: "I am happy and I don't give a damn about anything that is not vital"

BarcelonaAmaia Montero will turn 50 this Wednesday in the middle of the tour for her comeback with La Oreja de Van Gogh, the tourTantas cosas que contar. In an interview with the Efe agency, the singer has stated that getting older has "disadvantages" but that she is "happy": "And anything that isn't vital, I don't give a damn about," she adds.

"Getting older has its disadvantages, let's not kid ourselves, but I wouldn't go back crazy to the insecurities of my 15s, the disappointments of my early twenties, the philosophical doubts of my thirties, or the false certainties of my 40s," she states. "With my 50s, I am happy and anything that isn't vital, I don't give a damn about," warns Amaia Montero after having performed fifteen concerts in just three months. Her return to the group with which she achieved fame was one of the most talked-about musical news of 2025. The San Sebastián band still has a long tour ahead of it that will also pass through Barcelona. Specifically, the group will offer four concerts in the Catalan capital: it will be at the Palau Sant Jordi on November 6, 7, 26, and 27 of this year. Afterwards, the band will make the leap to Latin America, where they also have several concerts scheduled.

The tour kicked off on May 9 in Bilbao. At that first concert, Montero shared with the attendees her happiness at returning to the musical forefront alongside her former bandmates. "I thought I would never set foot on a stage again. I was lost, completely lost, to the point of not recognizing myself. There were many dark days, when I thought everything was over. I have gone down to hell, but with my scars, after fighting hard, I am here," said the singer at the time, who in recent years has had to face various mental health problems. The singer's return to La Oreja de Van Gogh was announced in October 2025, a year after the band announced that Leire Martínez, the band's vocalist for almost two decades, was leaving the group.

Despite the fans' excitement to enjoy Montero with La Oreja de Van Gogh again, the reviews of the first concerts cast doubt on whether the singer was prepared to take on a challenge like the intense tour ahead of her. She herself, during the first concert in Bilbao, admitted that she had not been up to par with some of the songs.
