Former minister Garmendia leaves Mediaset

Mediapro appoints new executives, and other appointments this week

There have been developments in the communications sector this past week. Cristina Garmendia, who served as Minister of Science in José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's government, has decided to step down as president of the Mediaset television group. Mario Rodríguez, until now the company's corporate general manager and director of institutional relations, takes over as the new president. Also in the audiovisual world, the Mediapro Group is strengthening its market and advertiser services with the creation of a market research department. This new division is headed by Kike Lozano, formerly the general manager of the audiovisual consultancy Geca.

Mediaset España has a new president. Following the recent resignation of Cristina Garmendia, the board of directors of the audiovisual group has appointed Mario Rodríguez, until now the corporate general manager and director of institutional relations, to take over. Having been with Mediaset continuously since 1998, Rodríguez embarks on a new chapter as president of the audiovisual group. In his nearly three decades with the company, he possesses a deep understanding of the legal and regulatory framework of the audiovisual sector and proven experience in corporate governance and institutional representation and dialogue. Cristina Garmendia decided to step down as president after a period of reflection and with the intention of beginning a new professional phase focused on "innovation and a positive impact on the economy and society" of Spain.

The former minister under Zapatero had been with Mediaset for more than eight years. She joined the media group in 2017, first as an independent director and later as a member and chair of the audit and compliance committee and the appointments and remuneration committee. In 2024, she succeeded Borja Prado as chair of the group, which was led by CEO Alessandro Salem.

Director of Market Research at Mediapro

Mediapro Group strengthens its services to markets and advertisers with the creation of a market research department. This new division is headed by Kike Lozano, formerly CEO of the audiovisual consultancy GECA, and is part of the Mediapro Group's area of brands & experiencesLed by David Xirau, the firm aims to create unique and singular value propositions for brands and institutions, where creativity and excellence become drivers of transformation. Kike Lozano is the founder and director of the Master's program in Audiovisual Distribution and Business and the Master's program in... big data and AI for audiovisual media, both at ECAM, and coordinator of the audiovisual rights area in the MBA in sports rights at UAX. In 2018 he was appointed director of GECA, and previously held management positions at Trece, Paramount, and La Sexta.

To lead GECA's new phase, Mediapro has brought on board Víctor García-Morato, a television professional with experience in strategy and content. García-Morato, who joins from the production company Isla Audiovisual, where he was director of strategy and business, was part of the team that launched La Sexta and has held positions of responsibility at FOX Networks Group (both in Portugal and Spain) and Disney+.

Eduard Sallent, former head of the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) in two separate periods, will now work at SIMA Consulting, a consulting firm he co-founded. This comes after news broke a few days ago thatThe commissioner had requested a leave of absence.And that he would leave the Catalan police force after a few weeks, his new destination is now known.

According to the consulting firm itself, which specializes in strategy, crisis management, and communication, among other areas, Sallent will be in charge of projects related to corporate strategy and complex risk management. The former police chief, who had commanded the Southern Metropolitan Police Region since 2024, will share leadership of the project with Raül Murcia, the current CEO of the consulting firm.

Chief Executive of InfoJobs

InfoJobs has announced the appointment of Román Campa as the new CEO of the Spanish job platform, which he previously led between 2019 and 2021. Campa's return coincides with the start of a new phase for the company following its recent acquisition by the investment firm EQT. Campa joined the group in 2016 as CFO and led the platform between 2019 and 2021, so he assumes the leadership role with a "deep understanding of the DNA" of InfoJobs and the digital classifieds sector, the company stated. "We are beginning a new chapter where autonomy and a focus on the Spanish market will allow us to be more agile," said the new CEO. The company's new structure includes its own board of directors and will enable it to accelerate the development of specific solutions to address the current challenges facing employment in Spain.

New president of Cedinsa Concessionaire

Ramón Parra has just assumed the presidency of the Cedinsa highway group, replacing Javier Vizcaíno, who is retiring. The new president was already a member of the board of directors, where he represented its main shareholder, the French fund Vauban Infrastructure Partners, which is linked to Natixis, a division of the French banking group BPCE. Before joining Vauban in 2015, Parra worked at the former OHL and Acciona, among other construction companies. Cedinsa is a concessionaire of the Catalan government (Generalitat) that, during Pasqual Maragall's presidency (2003-2006), won the contract for the construction, management, and maintenance of several high-capacity roads financed through a shadow toll system. These include the C-16 between Sant Fruitós de Bages and Berga, the C-17 between Centelles and Ripoll, and the Eix d'Aro (C-35/C-65/C-31). These routes were joined by the Eix Transversal (C-25), whose concession was taken back by the Generalitat.

Catalonia.health, an association that brings together more than 230 leading companies and knowledge agents in R&D&I, industrialization, and management of the healthcare sector in Catalonia, has announced the appointment of Eva García Ramos as its new president. García Ramos, a senior telecommunications engineer with a General Management Program (PDG) from IESE Business School, is CEO and co-founder of Wivi Vision, a pioneering company in digital health solutions with more than 30,000 patients and over 110 installations in Spain, and currently in the sales and expansion phase in the United States and Portugal. The company has been recognized by Forbes in 2025 as one of the companies that are changing the world, accumulating more than 70 national and international innovation awards, including the Donatic Award 2024 and various awards with EIT Health and IBM.

At Catalonia.Health, García Ramos will lead a revamped board of directors comprised of representatives from strategic sectors of the ecosystem: from biopharmaceutical product development and medical technologies to digital health and scientific-technical services. The members of the new management team are: Jordi Martorell (Aortyx) as first vice president; the outgoing president, Mariona Serra (GoodGut by Hipra), as second vice president; Pau Turón (B. Braun Group) as third vice president and treasurer; Marta Parente (GP Pharm) as fourth vice president; Elisabeth Stampa (Medichem) as secretary and first member; and Gabriel Capellá (IDIBELL), Jaume Vallet (Comser), Laura Pellisé (Amgen), Joël Jean-Mairet (Ysios), and Jordi Barretina (IGTP) as second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth members, respectively.
