CPI falls in Catalonia for the first time in ten months, but remains at 5.9% in January
Prices grew by 6.1% in Spain as a whole, 0.1% above the INE's initial forecasts
The consumer price index fell in Catalonia for the first time in ten months, since in January prices increased by 5.9% in year-on-year terms, two tenths less than the variation recorded in December (+6.1%), according to data published on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE). Even so, this is the second highest rate since records began.
The decline in prices in January is partly due to sales, since the clothing and footwear section fell by 12.1% over the previous month. As for the State as a whole, prices grew by 6.1% in year-on-year terms in January, slightly above the INE's initial forecasts. The rate recorded this past month, however, is also lower than that recorded in December, when the CPI rose by 6.5%.
