We will be able to buy a flat fifty-fifty with the Generalitat

This morning, Junts per Catalunya decided to launch a rocket into the sky, a rocket that can be seen from afar and indicates to everyone, for when another electoral cycle comes, that it is Junts and not Aliança that is the only alternative to the PSC-Esquerra-Comuns investiture and budget bloc. And that is why the president of the Junts group, Mònica Sales, has announced an action that had never been seen before: she wants Parliament to vote on the censure of President Salvador Illa: “You, President, are the worst president modern Catalonia has had (...) That is why I announce to you that today the Junts parliamentary group will present a motion to censure you as president of the Generalitat”

Sales spared nothing, especially when she ended her speech by telling Illa that tomorrow will mark nine years since October 1st and that on that day, Illa was on the side of the batons and not the ballot boxes.

Let's see, Junts already knows that it will lose the censure vote, because the PSC, ERC, and Comuns will vote against it, but for the 'juntaires' it is first about showing some initiative and responding to those who say that Illa governs without opposition. And, second, to make Esquerra and Comuns have to show their true colors. But at this point, everyone knows that the three groups act in unison, in Catalonia and in Spain, with differences and tensions, but fundamentally in unison.

President Illa took the blow in his own style, replying without being much perturbed: “When you are part of a group that asked for a question of confidence from the President of the Government of which you were a part, what do you want me to say, I don't know how to take a censure”

This is the play-by-play and parliamentary result of the day. The debate raised by Junts is about substance; it is about the national ambition of the PSC, especially when the management does not approach what seemed to be the strong point of the Socialists. And this was thrown in his face by the president of the Esquerra group, Josep Maria Jové, who went over all the blunders of the Illa government, who asked him not to say anymore that the years of the independence movement were the lost decade, and who concluded that Illa lacks leadership. Esquerra gave a speech to put maximum distance between itself and Illa and the PSC, but the facts are that the Government will not fall because Esquerra will sustain it.

While this was happening in Parliament, the Official State Gazette (BOE) published the two housing decrees approved yesterday by the Spanish Council of Ministers. Two decrees that will go to a vote in Congress the day after tomorrow, Friday, and as things stand, with people camping out in Madrid and Barcelona, it is shaping up to be the mother of all votes. Things are as they were: everyone is waiting to see what Junts will vote, as they have not said how they will vote while waiting to see what the decrees say.

The coincidence of Maricarmen's case, the decrees, and the encampments with the general policy debate in Parliament led Salvador Illa yesterday to announce that the Government will offer Catalans of “forty years of age with stable income” –but who have “difficulties accessing a mortgage”– the option of sharing ownership with the Generalitat: the Generalitat would keep 50% of the housing, which it would cede ownership of for forty or fifty years. During this time, the housing could be sold or rented and even inherited, but once that

time has passed, the person would have to decide whether to pay the other half to the Generalitat or lose the apartment, which would be allocated to the social housing stock. This measure will have funding of 100 million euros.

We will be able to buy an apartment halfway with the Generalitat. Meanwhile, what is known about the 214,000 homes that President Illa promised a year ago? And the 50,000 from two years ago?

Everything is public aid, for babies, for young people, for 40-year-olds, for the elderly… and one thinks that social aid is better than spending on armaments. But aid like this is new evidence that the economic system is not working. We have people camping on the beaches of Ceuta who came full of dreams without knowing that here people also camp in the squares for fear of being kicked out of their homes.
