Antoni Bassas' analysis: "Junqueras shifts Esquerra's discourse toward right-wing issues."

This morning on TV3, he spoke about curbing crime, stating that we can no longer say "nothing happens" when it happens, and speaking about occupations of houses and flats, he defended the right to rent out an owned flat and to pursue squatters.

Before talking about Esquerra, let's address the din coming from Madrid. In the end, Pro-Palestinian protests forced the suspension of the final stage of the Vuelta., with 56 kilometers left in the race.

Ayuso and Almeida have raised a hue and cry. In fact, Ayuso went to take a picture with the Israeli team and blamed Sánchez., who in the morning, at a rally in Andalusia, had said this:

"I'm also proud to see a country as plural as ours, so territorially diverse, yet where we all agree on a just cause like human rights. Therefore, long live human rights and long live the Spanish people. Let's say it with pride!"

We try to understand how many layers this discourse has.

The first is symbols. The left has been embracing Palestine for years, and the right, Israel.

The second is the electoral calculation. Pedro Sánchez needs to take advantage of all the space that has grown on the left and with which, incidentally, he has had to form a coalition government. Sánchez has half-snatched the Palestinian flag from Podemos, Sumar, and Comuns. Something similar is happening to the PP, which needs to speak like Vox so that Vox doesn't impede Feijóo's absolute majority. The Vuelta protest is convenient for Sánchez because it's popular and doesn't affect daily life. If he's so concerned about human rights, why doesn't he propose a general strike?

Third, politics and sports. I suppose I don't need to tell you too much at this point that everything is politics. Or aren't national teams politics? And there's a lot of hypocrisy surrounding this issue. When Russia invaded Ukraine, all the Ukrainian flags were on the Spanish football league screens, and Russian teams were banned from competitions.

Fourth, the reality that people see. Sánchez can call "in the revolt"But people wouldn't react so much if we hadn't seen two things every day for nearly two years: that Israel is destroying life in Gaza, and that the European Union and the Western world haven't reacted so quickly to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Under these conditions, when televised deaths are clamoring for conscience, where do they think they'll do what they want?"

And that's what we were saying about Esquerra. Before, we read today that One of the critically wounded (there were three) has died in a shooting that happened on Saturday at 12:30 a.m. in a park in Mollet. This isn't the first time that gunshot deaths on the streets of Catalonia have made the news. A new and more dangerous form of crime has infiltrated our streets. And the two major pro-independence parties have taken note, because they see a loss of votes to the Catalan Alliance. So has Esquerra, and I say "also" because for ideological reasons their discourse was more about rights than duties. Until now. A few days ago, Oriol Junqueras said that we had to be careful about moving from a Catalonia of 8 million to a Catalonia of 10 million because the country can't take any more, which is a way of talking about immigration. And this morning, on TV3, he spoke about curbing crime, stating that we can no longer say "nothing happens" when it happens, and speaking of occupations of houses and flats, he defended the right to rent out an owned flat and to pursue squatters:

"The right to a home purchased with the efforts of a lifetime are, and should be, and we are convinced that they are, compatible with that person's right to enjoy the benefits derived from that home. Surely there are criminal occupations that should not be permitted."

Junqueras has detected the fear of society and the benefits that the right reaps. And he has changed his speech.

Good morning.
