Wednesday of stalemate before the last heatwave of the week

BarcelonaThe heat and stuffiness have been very intense again for the umpteenth consecutive day and, in fact, have intensified, with maximums that have once again been between 36 and 40 ºC inland today. Around 40 ºC was reached, especially in Ponent and in the southern interior, but also in some parts of Central Catalonia or the northeastern interior, with unbridled heat. The 40.6 ºC reached in Cardona, in Bages, stand out.

This Wednesday the thermometers will recede, although with values that will continue clearly above the average. But pay attention, because on Thursday there will be another peak of extreme heat in the interior of the country. Meteocat has activated alerts for intense heat in many counties for Thursday.

However, on Friday the mercury will start to drop, and this thermal decrease will intensify between the weekend and the beginning of next week. Therefore, we are on the verge of a few days with more normalized temperatures, more bearable heat, and generally more pleasant nights. Before that, however, we will have to pay the torrid toll of Thursday.

Wednesday: temperatures drop

This night will again be warm and uncomfortable in several regions, especially along the coast, pre-coast, south, and Ponent. The mercury may drop a little, but tropical minimum temperatures will repeat and be quite general, while there will again be torrid minimums in parts of the coast and the south of the country. Meteocat maintains the alert for night-time heat in several regions.

The maximums will decrease generally, with many values from 32 to 37 ºC and marked sultriness on the coast. 40 ºC will not be reached in Ponent and the Ebro valley. All this with a sun that will once again combine at times with some bands of high and medium clouds and suspended dust. Afternoon clouds will grow in the Pyrenees that will hardly bring rain, while in the afternoon new showers are not ruled out in the Terres de l'Ebre.

Scorching peak before the ‘refreshment’

Thursday will see an increase in the most intense heat, as we continue under the effects of the North African warm bubble. This rise will be significant inland, especially in Ponent and the Ebro valley, where maximum temperatures will be recorded between 41 and 44 ºC, with a torrid and suffocating atmosphere. On the coast there will be few changes, with marked mugginess.

All this will be the final flourish before the expected drop in thermometers. This descent will begin on Friday, but we will not notice it more generally until the weekend and the beginning of next week. It is not a great cooling, but the heat will be much more bearable, and at night we will also sleep better. Apart from some showers, no significant rain situation is in sight.
