The weather

Wednesday is a lull as we await a new front and a new wind

Thursday will be the most complicated day of the rest of the week, with strong winds in several regions.

BarcelonaThe weather has been very pleasant and enjoyable this Tuesday across most of the country, with only a few isolated and light showers in the northeast and on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees. The wind has noticeably eased, continuing only lightly to moderately in the southern half of the country. Looking ahead to Wednesday, the situation will remain calm for much of the day, with southerly winds bringing temperatures up further. However, a front associated with the new Atlantic low-pressure system will arrive in the late hours. Peter The ninth storm of the year and the sixteenth of the season will bring more rain to the Pyrenees and some showers to other parts of northern and western Spain. But this front will primarily usher in strong winds on Thursday, affecting many regions, especially in the southern half of the country. Meteocat has already issued its first weather alerts for Thursday, with gusts easily exceeding 70 km/h, and reaching speeds of over 100 km/h in the windiest areas.

Strong winds Thursday

The weather front that will cross us during the night and early hours of Wednesday to Thursday will bring strong westerly and northwesterly winds to many areas. Thursday will be a very windy day, with the most affected areas being those south of Barcelona, Tarragona, and Ponent, the peaks of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, and the northernmost part of Alt Empordà. Winds will exceed 70 or 80 km/h in many places, and even 100 km/h in the windiest areas, such as Penedès, Anoia, Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l'Ebre, and the high Pyrenean peaks. In contrast, many areas of the northeast and some valleys in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees will remain largely unaffected by this weather event. All this under plenty of sunshine, but with the remnants of some local showers in the northeast, and further precipitation in the Pyrenees – mainly on the northern slopes – which will fall persistently, with the snow level fluctuating between 1,000 and 1,200 meters. This will be the grand finale of this unsettled weather, as from Friday onwards the anticyclone will settle in, something that hasn't happened so clearly since last year. A radiant and enjoyable weekend awaits us, with an increasingly pronounced temperature inversion and a stark contrast between the moderate morning chill and the marked warmth at midday.
