The weather

We'll need to dress in layers in the coming days: the Indian summer is here.

Temperatures will rise throughout the week, and despite the cold mornings, the midday temperatures will be very mild.

BarcelonaWe've started the week with very calm and pleasant weather. And this will be the pattern for the next few days, with absolute calm in general. We can expect sunny days, thin clouds, morning fog, and a marked temperature contrast between the morning chill and the midday warmth. In fact, today, Tuesday, is Saint Martin's Day, and this year the Indian summer will arrive right on schedule, with a peak in temperatures expected, especially between Wednesday and Thursday. This will be caused by a low-pressure system located in the Atlantic, which will push warm winds from North Africa to our country, also bringing some suspended air masses starting tomorrow. A marked temperature inversion will also persist, with colder nights at lower elevations than at higher elevations. For example, yesterday in Cerdanya, a low of -4°C was recorded in Das (1,100 m), much lower than the 3°C recorded at Tosa de Alp (2,400 m). Also noteworthy today are the lows of -1°C in Guixers-Valls, in the Solsonès region (800 m altitude), and 7°C at the Queralt Sanctuary, in the Berguedà region (2,500 m altitude). This situation is also being experienced outside the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, with Montserrat reaching a low of 9°C compared to 2°C in Sant Salvador de Guardiola, in the Bages region. An Atlantic front will bring changes to the weather on Friday.

Tuesday: absolute calm

The second day of the week will be very calm again. We woke up to a chilly morning with frost in parts of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees valleys and some inland areas, with a temperature inversion. Temperatures generally dropped below 5°C across much of the interior and below 10°C in the pre-coastal areas and many coastal spots. Even on the Costa Brava, there were some lows of 3 or 4°C. There is also morning fog and low cloud in the plains and inland valleys, but by midday, the highs will rise slightly, with generally pleasant weather. Many temperatures are expected to be between 16 and 22°C. A day to enjoy, with sunshine, calm weather, and occasional wisps of high, thin clouds.

Warm peak in sight

Temperatures will rise even further between Wednesday and Thursday, with generally mild to warm conditions at midday. This will be the peak of the Indian summer, with many highs between 19 and 24 °C, and even around 25 °C in the warmest areas, especially in the south of the country. All this with dust in the air, absolute calm, and pleasant weather to enjoy. There will be little change in the sky compared to the beginning of this week.

The weather maps indicate that from Friday onwards we will once again be under the influence of Atlantic fronts. Although these fronts will arrive in our country relatively weakened, instability will increase, with a risk of showers in some areas. This situation remains uncertain and will need to be confirmed, but for now, it is not expected to cause temperatures to drop, remaining above average.
