Two days of sunshine and mild weather before another change in the weather

The change in weather expected midweek will cause the snow level in the Pyrenees to plummet.

BarcelonaThe downpours that fell between Sunday afternoon and yesterday are now history, after leaving locally nearly 15 liters per square meter in some areas of northern Girona and the Pyrenees. Both today and tomorrow will bring back radiant sunshine and absolute calm, with a clear rise in temperatures that will make midday considerably milder, especially on Wednesday. However, the passage of a cold front late Wednesday will open the door to an indirect influx of cold air of polar origin, which will lower temperatures from then on, particularly in the Pyrenees, where snow is expected below 1,000 meters. A slight retreat towards winter, typical of this time of year. As the saying goes, "March, March, kills the old woman by the fireside, and the young one if she can," referring to the rollercoaster of temperatures during this transitional month between winter and spring. Therefore, it seems that the second part of the week could be cooler, but beyond showers in some regions, no significant rainfall is expected.

Tuesday: sun and calm

Tuesday will be very calm, with no repeat of the showers from Sunday and Monday. Radiant sunshine will prevail everywhere, with the exception of a few wisps of high, thin clouds, as well as some morning fog or low clouds. In the afternoon, some localized cloud cover may develop in the northeast interior and the eastern Pyrenees, but these will be completely harmless. It will be a pleasant day throughout, accompanied by a rise in maximum temperatures. There will be a marked temperature contrast between the morning chill and the mild midday weather. Most temperatures will range between 16°C and 21°C during the middle of the day.

New weather change midweek

Wednesday will be calm across most regions. Sunshine will prevail, and temperatures will rise even further. A warm midday is expected, with many highs between 17°C and 23°C, locally higher in the Ebro, Priorat, and Poniente areas. However, a cold front will approach, bringing showers back to the northern slopes of the Pyrenees from the afternoon or evening onwards. The snow level will start at 1,600 meters, but will drop sharply by nightfall. This will be the prelude to an influx of cold air of polar origin, which will arrive much weaker and less intense, as it will be affecting other parts of Europe. All of this will cause a significant drop in temperatures across the board on Thursday, leading to a more moderate second half of the week. There will be some snow in the Pyrenees, especially on the northern slopes, with the snow level potentially dropping as low as 800 meters. On Thursday, there will also be some scattered showers in the Barcelona and Girona regions, but not much, with strong mistral and tramontana winds in the outer areas.

In short, the next few days will be 100% spring-like, with a bit of everything and a rollercoaster of temperatures, although no widespread or significant rain is expected in the medium term. The weekend could end with colder weather and significant snowfall in the Pyrenees, but all of this remains to be confirmed.
