The weather

On the verge of a radical change in the weather: rain and a great refreshment are coming

A cold air pocket will cause showers, storms and, above all, a sharp drop in temperatures.

The placid summer weather of the last few days is running out. We're on the verge of a significant change that will suddenly take us from August to October temperatures. The weekend will still start hot and muggy, although temperatures will drop inland and the Pyrenees on Saturday, and cloudy periods will increase with some initial showers or local drops. On Sunday, the approach of a cold air pocket will reactivate the instability, with showers and thunderstorms that could affect any part of the country throughout the day. Meteocat has all regions on alert for heavy rain, and Civil Protection has activated the Inuncat plan alert.

Temperatures will begin to drop on Sunday, with lows often falling late in the day. Next week, we'll feel the full effect of the cooling effect due to the arrival of cold air from the polar regions. Temperatures will even be below average, with generally quite cool temperatures and possibly the first dusting of the season in the high Pyrenees. Autumn will officially arrive on Monday night, and it will do so with a bang.

Saturday: first changes

The first day of the weekend will still be quiet, but the first changes will arrive. We will notice an increase in cloud cover in general, and during the early morning and early morning, some scattered drops, drizzle, or showers may occur in coastal and pre-coastal areas, especially in Barcelona and Tarragona. A few showers may occur in the Pyrenees and pre-Pyrenees of Lleida, as well as in other areas of Ponent and Els Ports, starting in the afternoon.

All this with temperatures that will remain similar to those of this Friday in many regions, with muggy and warm conditions in the middle of the day. However, maximum temperatures will drop slightly in inland areas and in the Pyrenees, especially in the northern regions of Lleida. Many values range from 26 to 31°C. Another night that is too mild for the season, with the repetition of some tropical lows in sections of the coast and in the Ebro.

Sunday: significant change in weather

The approaching cold air pocket will cause a significant increase in instability. During the night and early morning, there will already be thunderstorms in the Pyrenees and the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees, as well as some scattered, weak showers that will circulate from west to east.

Showers and thunderstorms will gain ground throughout the day and could appear in any region, with some significant downpours accompanied by hail. The main event appears to arrive in the afternoon, with precipitation moving again from west to east.

A complicated day, and we're keeping an eye on the sky. Mountain activities are not recommended. It's also the weekend return day, so be careful on the roads if we're caught driving in the rain. Early in the morning, we won't notice the change in temperature, but throughout the day the mercury will drop, especially inland and in the Pyrenees, where the coolness will already be evident. Many lows will be recorded at the end of the day.

Fresh strength next week

Cold air from the polar regions will hit us hard next week. We're looking at much cooler days, more like October than mid- to late-September. The highest highs will barely exceed 22°C, with chilly nights in many inland and mountain regions. Lows below zero will even be recorded in the high Pyrenees, where the first flouring of the season could be experienced as the days go by. Autumn will begin with a firm start on Monday at 8:19 p.m.
