The weather

The sunniest Sunday, but still with some local showers

This Saturday the rain has been very abundant in some regions of the country

BarcelonaShowers and thunderstorms have once again taken center stage in the weather. Severe instability has resulted in very heavy downpours in the northern and eastern half of the country, accumulating over 60 or 70 l/m² in some places (you'll find the most significant precipitation figures at the end of this report). The weather will tend to become more stable as the hours pass, although there will still be some residual morning showers on the southern coast and some isolated afternoon showers in the eastern Pyrenees on Sunday.

Sunday: calmer

The long weekend and the weekend will end calmly, with sunshine gaining ground, especially in the West and north. There will be some cloudy patches in coastal and pre-coastal areas, including the eastern half. Cloudy conditions will be more abundant between the southern Costa Daurada and the regions of Castellón and Valencia, with scattered, light showers around the Ebro delta.

Temperatures will rise further inland and in the Pyrenees, but will remain similar near the sea. In the Ebro, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands, highs will fall due to increased cloud cover. The weather will be generally warm in the middle of the day, with highs reaching 33°C in the West.

Monday: cloudy intervals

The weather will be more stable at the start of the week, although there will still be some cloudy periods concentrated on the southern coast and the pre-coast, and even some scattered showers. Showers could also occur in the eastern Pyrenees during the afternoon; however, these will be relatively mild. Temperatures will rise further in the middle of the day, and the warm conditions of Sunday afternoon will be repeated.

Balance of this Sunday's storms

A series of showers and thunderstorms swept across the northern half of the country for much of the early morning hours, often accompanied by lightning, strong gusts of wind, and hail. The rainfall was torrential in some cases, and a new Catalan record for accumulated precipitation in just one minute was set: 7.6 l/m² at 5:27 a.m. in La Quar (Berguedà). The 26.1 l/m² accumulated in five minutes in the same municipality is also a record, at least since rainfall per minute began to be recorded (2009). During the afternoon, the heaviest rain was concentrated in Vallès Occidental and nearby regions such as Barcelonès and Maresme. These are the most notable precipitation records up to mid-afternoon:
