The weather

The heat wave will ease, but it will take time to go away.

Temperatures will still remain very high, with the expectation that they will drop more significantly at the end of the week.

The heat wave brought another scorching day across the country this Tuesday, with sleepless nights, especially near the sea, and temperatures exceeding 40°C in the most sweltering areas. Only strong afternoon thunderstorms in some regions brought a sudden cooling off where they occurred (you'll find all the day's data at the end of this report). Therefore, July began just as it ended. The hottest June in our country's history, which has left us with numerous heat records.

All this with new downpours and heavy thunderstorms in parts of the interior and the Pyrenees, and wherever they are dumping the fresh rain, it's evident. This water and fresh rain have also reached the area affected by the Segarra fire, where it could rain until well past dinnertime. A balm in the fight against the flames. Temperatures will still remain very high this Wednesday, but we'll be able to subside a few degrees. A subtle change that will increase in the coming days, pending a more noticeable drop in temperature, especially at the end of the week and the beginning of the next, with more bearable heat and more comfortable nights.

Wednesday: very hot, with small changes

The heat wave will continue this Wednesday, although maximum temperatures may already drop a few degrees. A negligible change that we will hardly notice. Therefore, we will have to sweat profusely for another day, with temperatures up to 40°C or more in the West and the southern interior, and over 35°C in much of the country. Very marked muggy conditions on the coast and another tropical night in many regions, where torrid lows—over 25°C—will be repeated in coastal areas. Meteocat maintains alerts for both daytime and nighttime heat, although in fewer regions than in recent days. The arrival of the Tramontana wind during the early morning and early morning could make low temperatures very high in the Alt Empordà. However, where it has rained, the night will be cooler and more comfortable.

All this, with sun in the morning and cloudy afternoons, will again bring showers and irregular thunderstorms to some regions. They will mainly affect areas of the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, and Central Catalonia. However, they may reappear in the West, the pre-coastal region, Els Ports, and inland Valencia. They could be strong and accompanied by hail, hail, and strong gusts of wind. Meteocat maintains several alerts in this regard. Where it rains, the cooling will be evident.

Less and less extreme heat

On Thursday, temperatures will drop slightly further, but not everywhere. The drop will be most noticeable in the Pyrenees, inland Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Menorca, and northern Mallorca. Therefore, the heat will become less extreme, and we'll be saying goodbye to the 40°C mark, but the atmosphere will remain very warm. There will be little change on Friday, but between the weekend and the beginning of next week, the drop in temperatures will be more evident.

Temperatures will even return to normal, with much more bearable summer heat during the day and more comfortable nights. That's when we'll finally say goodbye to a heat wave that will take a while to disappear. All this, with new afternoon showers and storms in the Pyrenees and inland areas, while we wait for instability to gain ground by the end of the week.

Review of the first day of July

July began in the midst of a heat wave, with highs once again reaching and exceeding 40°C in the West and southern inland regions. Once again, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Vinebre, in the Ribera d'Ebre region, at 41.4°C. Temperatures also reached 40°C in some parts of the northeastern inland. Sweltering, stifling heat was felt everywhere, but afternoon thunderstorms caused sudden drops of over 10°C where it rained. The storms were strong, with gusts of wind, hail, and thunderstorms, causing some isolated flooding. They particularly affected the Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, Central Catalonia, and the northern and eastern regions of Lleida. The 28 l/m² in Muntanyola (Osona), the 26 in Puigcerdà (Cerdanya) and the 25 in Solsona (Solsonès) stand out. In all these areas you will sleep very well today.
