Skywatch: Severe storm warning today and tomorrow
The showers will start on Friday, and the main event is expected on Saturday.
BarcelonaThese past few days have already seen showers and thunderstorms in some parts of the country, and the unsettled weather will clearly worsen between today and tomorrow. A pocket of cold air will cross us at altitude, colliding directly with the summer heat we have at the surface and the humidity of the Mediterranean, causing a sharp increase in instability. This morning, scattered, minor showers may occur, especially in parts of the coast and the southern pre-coast. However, from the afternoon and into the evening, showers and thunderstorms may occur irregularly in many regions, especially in the center and north. Saturday will be the most complicated day, with a series of showers and thunderstorms that will primarily affect the south and inland parts of the country. In all cases, the storms could be strong and accompanied by violent meteorological phenomena, such as downpours, hail, and strong winds. Civil Protection has already activated the Inuncat plan alert.
More than 20 l/m² can accumulate in just half an hour. Meteocat has also issued alerts for heavy rain across much of the country between Thursday and Saturday, while the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a special warning for the passage of this DANA, which will primarily affect the northern half of the peninsula, with heavy showers in this area.
Friday: busy weather
Cloudy patches will be present throughout the morning. Cloud cover will again be abundant along the southern coast and pre-coast in the morning, with scattered showers or light rain. Showers and heavy thunderstorms will begin moving south from the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees starting around midday and continuing into the afternoon.
Until the evening and early night, the storms will affect many parts of the center and north of the country irregularly. Some showers may even reach the coastline starting in the evening. In the late afternoon and midnight, they will be concentrated between the West and Terres de l'Ebre regions. The storms will be accompanied locally by downpours, hail, hail, and strong winds.
All with temperatures that will generally remain unchanged, both day and night. Maximum temperatures will only drop slightly in the western part of the country and the Pyrenees. Another day of relatively warm weather, with highs of 26 to 32°C and muggy conditions on the coast. The night will be mild, with tropical lows on the coast and in parts of the pre-coastal, southern, and western parts. Cooler in the north.
Strong storms to start the weekend
Saturday will be the busiest day, as the cold air pocket will hit us hard. Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the day in practically every part of Catalonia and Castellón. It won't rain all day everywhere, but thunderstorms and thunderstorms will appear, often heavy and with the risk of hail, hail, or strong winds.
According to the current maps, the worst affected areas would be the south and west of the country during the early morning and early morning, but storms will reach all parts of the country throughout the day. All this with temperatures set to drop thanks to this rain and cloud cover. The heat is very much in check.
Sunday will be calmer and warmer.
Starting Sunday, the cold air jam will dissipate, and sunshine and calm will clearly gain ground. Only a few afternoon showers will remain in some mountain areas, especially in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. Temperatures will rise again, and next week the heat will be much more pronounced. However, no major heat waves are in sight.
