BarcelonaThis Friday, the rains are being intense and abundant in the Valencian Community, where since yesterday more than 100 or locally 200 l/m² have accumulated (you'll find all the data at the end of this report). More than 100 l/m² have also accumulated with downpours and incidents in Murcia. And this weekend, unstable conditions will remain marked in our Mediterranean region due to the effects of the Dana. Alice and humidity-laden maritime winds.

Saturday will be a rainy day in Valencia, the Balearic Islands, and Terres de l'Ebre. Rainfall is expected to continue into Sunday and could be very heavy and torrential. Scattered showers could also arrive on Sunday in other areas of the Catalan coast. Civil Protection has activated the Inuncat plan alert, and Meteocat has yellow and orange warnings active, especially in the south of the country, for downpours that could leave more than 40 l/m² in just half an hour and accumulations of more than 100 l/m². Aemet also has numerous alerts activated in the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community.

Forecast map for this Saturday.

Saturday: heavy rain from the Ebro to the south

The first day of the weekend will once again be marked by rain. This time, it will sweep across the entire Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, but this time it will also reach the Terres de l'Ebre. This is due to the gregal winds shifting slightly to the east, bringing high humidity to all these areas, where numerous alerts have been issued for potentially heavy and torrential rainfall. Caution is advised in flood-prone areas and around rivers, streams, and ravines, which may suddenly rise. In addition to the alerts for the Ebro River, the Aemet (Spanish Meteorological Agency) also maintains numerous warnings in the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community.

Scattered showers may also occur in the West and Camp de Tarragona regions. However, no rain is expected in the rest of Catalonia, with variable skies due to the presence of cloudy periods. In fact, sunshine will predominate in the northern half of the country, with the maritime conditions remaining highly disturbed along the entire coast due to gusty winds on the Costa Brava and Barcelona, and easterly winds on La Dorada and the Ebro. As has been the case in recent hours, wind gusts will exceed 40 or 50 km/h along the seafront. Maritime activities are not recommended this weekend.

All in all, temperatures will be significantly lower and cooler in the Ebro, Castellón, and the Balearic Islands, but similar or higher elsewhere. Overall, these are normal values for this time of year, with many highs of 20°C to 25°C and moderately cool temperatures early in the morning.

Sunday: the weather continues to be busy

Rainfall will continue throughout Sunday in Terres de l'Ebre. The latest development is that unstable conditions will also increase along the rest of the Catalan coast, where scattered showers may occur. The day will be partly cloudy, but more sunny towards the west and the Pyrenees. Showers and thunderstorms will continue in the Balearic Islands, but will taper off in the afternoon, while in the Valencian Community, the rain will become concentrated in the regions of Castellón and northern Valencia.

Temperatures will drop in Catalonia, and the weather will be somewhat cooler, especially along the coast and pre-coastal areas due to increased cloud cover. However, the opening of clear skies will cause maximum temperatures to rise significantly across much of the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. Winds will remain easterly to gregal, with very rough seas.

Instability will continue next week

The anticyclone will remain static in the British Isles next week, allowing for significant instability in our latitudes. Therefore, the maps indicate that showers will continue to appear throughout our Mediterranean region over the next few days, a situation that should be updated and closely monitored.

Rainfall Summary

This Friday, rainfall has been very heavy along the entire coast of the Valencian Community, especially between Valencia and Alicante, where more than 100 l/m² have already accumulated in several cases.
