More heat than is appropriate still for several days

The atmosphere has continued to be very warm and muggy these past few hours. Yesterday was a very heavy day, and tonight it has once again been warm and sleepless in several counties. Despite this oppressive atmosphere, yesterday the extremes of Wednesday were no longer reached, as temperatures dropped and 40 ºC were no longer recorded anywhere. The problem is that the high humidity makes the thermal sensation very pronounced, especially along the coast and pre-coast. Intervals of clouds and drizzles accompanied by mud contributed yesterday to increasing the feeling of mugginess, and only in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees did showers and thunderstorms fall with more force and eyes.

In the coming days, this very warm and canicular atmosphere will continue with sleepless nights and thermometers that can only drop a little more. What is clear is that we will officially leave the third heatwave behind. We can still expect several days with temperatures above average and no rain in sight. We will have to wait until the end of next week or the beginning of the following one for more significant changes to arrive.

Friday: stuffiness and heat without extremes

The night from Thursday to Friday was again warm and sleepless in many regions, although night thermometers have dropped slightly overall. Tropical minimums have recurred in several areas, with torrid minimums in parts of the coast, the south, and the Empordà. The mugginess was heavy, especially along the coast and pre-coast due to high humidity. Meteocat maintains alerts for nocturnal heat in some regions - especially in the Ponent area - until at least Saturday.

Maximum temperatures will be similar or will recede a little more, although they will rise in the southern interior. Many values between 32 and 37 ºC are expected, but locally they can reach 39 or 40 ºC in Ponent and the Ebro valley. On the coast, the maximums will again be more restrained, but with a very pronounced humidity that will persist and will also be noticeable in more regions. The sun will dominate, with a clear decrease in clouds, suspended dust, and only a few insignificant afternoon clouds in the Pyrenees.

Weekend without major changes

The weather will remain pleasant and warm this weekend. Therefore, no major changes are expected, with tropical nights in many places and hot and muggy conditions during the day. Fully summery weather, with values still higher than usual for this time of year. Even between Sunday and Monday, the mercury and intense heat may rise a bit, but in the medium term, no extreme peaks like those we've had recently are foreseen.

All in all with sun and calm, and only some local afternoon showers in the Pyrenees. Therefore, we will continue for a few more days under the effects of high pressure and, more indirectly, of the North African hot air bubble. The maps are beginning to hint at changes at the end of July that would bring a more noticeable cooling and a bit more instability, a possibility still distant that we will have to specify.
