Last downpours, gusts of wind, clear cooling and first dustings of snow on Thursday

BarcelonaThe weather has improved this Wednesday, but some irregular showers have still repeated, especially in the north of the country. A strong local storm stands out, which affected the north of the Alt Empordà and left more than 30 l/m² in Cadaqués, 25 of which in just fifteen minutes, with the sudden rising of the stream. Even so, in general, the day has had nothing to do with the strong and extensive torrential downpours of the last few days, which have already accumulated more than 200 or 300 l/m² in various points of the coast and pre-coast.

This Thursday, some showers and thunderstorms will still repeat in the regions of Girona and Barcelona. But this will be the final burst of rain, as from Friday onwards, sun and calm will dominate everywhere. Thursday's news will be that the north wind will blow strongly at the extremes, causing temperatures to drop significantly, with a decisive autumnal chill. The snow level will plummet, and the first dustings of the season may occur at high altitudes in the Pyrenees.

Thursday: drop in temperatures

The mistral and tramontane winds will blow strongly with intense gusts this Thursday in the Empordà—where the maritime situation will be very rough—, on the peaks of the Pyrenees and in the Terres de l'Ebre. Meteocat has activated an alert for strong winds in these areas. A north wind that will cause a drop in temperatures, with a clear cooling and minimums that in many cases will be recorded at the end of the day. Many maximums of only 18 to 23 °C are expected.

All this with remnants of instability, as in the morning there will be some showers on the northeast coast, and in the afternoon some irregular downpours and thunderstorms are expected between the Girona and Barcelona regions that may reach the central coast in the evening. Locally, some heavy downpours may occur, which is why Meteocat maintains the alert for intense rain in these areas. There will also be some showers between Menorca and Mallorca. On the other hand, in the rest of the territories, the sun will prevail.

Precipitation will also fall for much of the day on the north face of the Pyrenees, where the atmosphere will be grey and even cold, with a snow level that will plummet. During the second part of the day, it will drop from 2,000 to 1,600 m, which may cause the first dusting of snow of the season at high altitudes.

Calm and cool in the coming days

Starting Friday, the rain will disappear completely and sun and calm will prevail, also throughout the weekend, with a north wind that will gradually lose strength at the ends. Therefore, days to be taken advantage of are expected after a week of rain and downpours. However, thermometers will remain restrained and below what would be expected for this time of year, with an atmosphere between cool and mild during the day and cold at night. Autumn is advancing with a firm step.
