Heat of midsummer throughout the week
The heat will alternate with coastal fogs
BarcelonaThe anticyclone will keep the low-pressure systems away from our latitudes and the existing mass of warm air over the Iberian Peninsula is still generating temperatures more typical of early July than of May. Today, they have once again touched 35 °C in the Lleida plain, as, for example, in Alfarràs, and in the Girona regions, they have reached up to 30 °C. On the other hand, on the coast, the presence of fog banks has contributed to the thermometer not exceeding 24 °C or 25 °C in some parts of the Costa Brava.
The models indicate that this exceptionally warm spell will extend for a large part of next week, with values up to 10 degrees above average in some cases. The thermometers will reach their peak between Thursday and Friday, with values approaching 38 °C in Ponent. The heatwave will also hit the rest of Western Europe hard, especially the Iberian southwest, western France, and southern England. We will see if some heat records are reached in a month of May.
Sunday: relentless heat
The last day of the weekend will continue to be marked by this exceptional heatwave, with minimum and maximum temperatures very similar to those of Saturday. Clear skies and radiant sun in general, with the possibility once again of some fog or low cloud on the Costa Brava, on the central coast, or in front of the Ebro Delta. The sea will be flat and there will be no wind at all, or at most, a little very weak sea breeze at midday or during the afternoon.
During the afternoon, some clouds will grow in the western Pyrenees that may leave some showers, of short duration and low intensity.
More heat next week, with highs in Ponent of up to 38 °C
The latest maps from different meteorological models indicate that the heat could even peak next week, with maximums of up to 37 °C or 38 °C in Ponent. Heat records will probably not be reached, as we are coming from very warm recent May months. But we will have to see if the persistence of the heat wave becomes extraordinary, as we are talking about many consecutive days with values well above average.
With this heat, it will be necessary to dress in very summery clothes, seek shade and protect yourself with sunscreen, as the sun can burn our skin very easily at this time of year.
