A break in the rain in many regions, but new changes are on the horizon.

BarcelonaBetween today and tomorrow, the rain will let up in many areas, bringing more sunshine, but the skies won't be clear, and some more localized showers are still expected, especially this afternoon and evening. On Sunday, a small low-pressure system could bring more showers to several areas and more snow to the Pyrenees, although this situation remains somewhat uncertain. In any case, we will continue to experience this changeable weather pattern for several more days, driven by the passage of storms and fronts. Today will see a peak in temperatures, with the most pleasant weather around midday, but the weekend will be more wintry.

All of this comes after a front associated with the powerful storm crossed us yesterday. Leonardo which brought a barrage of widespread but light rain from west to east. Overall, little rain fell, and only in areas on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, and the northern part of the Poniente region did rainfall exceed 10 or 15 liters per square meter. Even in much of the Girona region, it barely rained at all. This storm has particularly affected the southern Iberian Peninsula, with very significant and extraordinary rainfall, especially in Andalusia, Portugal, and northeastern Morocco, and strong winds in many other parts of the peninsula. The 600 liters per square meter that fell in just 24 hours in Grazalema (Cádiz) stand out, an extraordinary figure comparable to the torrential downpours of the 2024 DANA storm in the Valencian Community.

Friday: quieter weather

After Thursday's front, the weather will be calmer today, although it won't clear up. Sunshine will dominate in the morning, while the afternoon will bring more cloud cover. A few showers are possible during the morning between Roussillon, Vallespir, and Alt Empordà. In the afternoon, clouds will build in the northeast, bringing some scattered showers, especially between Ripollès, Garrotxa, and Alt Empordà. Separately, between late afternoon and early evening, some showers will reach the Els Ports area, inland Valencia, and the western part of the region. These showers could spread to more areas of the western half of the region at night, particularly on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida, with the snow level around 1,300 meters below by late evening.

All of this will be accompanied by westerly winds, particularly strong during the early morning hours in central and southern Spain, especially in higher elevations. The rough seas will continue, with Meteocat weather alerts in place. The strong winds of the last few hours will ease in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, but will not disappear completely. Temperatures will rise and peak, with calmer conditions expected around midday. Highs of 13 to 18°C ​​are expected, locally reaching almost 20°C in the south.

Very changeable weekend

Saturday will be mostly sunny, occasionally interspersed with thin clouds, while cloud cover will increase again in the afternoon, especially in the south of the country. A few isolated, light showers are possible in the northeast interior in the afternoon, while there will be more clouds and some showers in the Valencian Community, which could reach the Terres de l'Ebre region in the afternoon. All of this will be accompanied by westerly to mistral winds in the central and southern parts of the country, and temperatures will drop.

There is still some uncertainty in the forecast for Sunday. Instability will increase due to the approach of a small low-pressure system. A cloudier day is expected, with a risk of rain in the Girona and Barcelona regions, especially between dawn and the early morning hours, as well as more snow in the Pyrenees, where the snow level will drop again to 1,000 or 1,100 meters. Some showers are expected again in the northeast in the afternoon. Northerly winds will pick up at the edges of the region, and the weather will be distinctly wintry throughout.
