Alert for downpours until night in several regions

BarcelonaThe announced change in weather is finally here. Showers and thunderstorms have reappeared in the last few hours in parts of the center and north of the country. So far they have been irregular, but locally heavy. The instability will continue over the next few hours, and pay attention because the thunderstorms will reactivate and gain intensity during the evening and night, especially between the coast and pre-coast of Barcelona and the north of Tarragona.

Regions such as Baix Llobregat, Alt and Baix Penedès, Garraf, Tarragonès, or Alt Camp are the ones most likely to suffer the most significant downpours tonight. But the showers will also reach the rest of the Barcelona area and parts of Central Catalonia and the Pre-Pyrenees, as well as the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, where significant downpours may also occur.

In this regard, Meteocat maintains the alert for intense rain in several regions that could leave more than 40 l/m² in just half an hour, and locally more than 60 or 90 l/m² in three hours. These warnings especially affect the coastal and pre-coastal regions of southern Barcelona and northern Tarragona. The Inuncat plan is activated in the alert phase, so great caution is required in flood-prone areas and near rivers and streams that could rise suddenly.

Beyond the instability, this change in weather will also be accompanied by a significant cooling. In fact, this Wednesday the maximums have already dropped, with most values between 25 and 30 °C, nothing to do with the more than 37 or 38 °C reached on Tuesday in the south of the country. Therefore, we will leave behind the atypical mid-summer atmosphere.

Where it has rained in these last few hours, a marked thermal drop has already been noted. And tonight the cooling will be notorious and general, with cold even in mountain areas. The mistral and tramontana winds that have reactivated in the last few hours will continue to blow in the Empordà and the Ebro, respectively. Therefore, the coming nights will already be very cool or cold depending on the region, without new tropical minimums on the coast.

As for midday, the heat will be well curbed, with values generally below 30 °C. On Thursday the drop will consolidate, with most maximums between 23 and 28 °C, lower in mountain areas and slightly higher in the southern interior. Although we will notice a rise in thermometers over the weekend, in general the values will remain normalized for the time of year, with controlled heat.

The weather will not clear up in the coming days

Although the front will already be history, the weather will not be completely clear in the coming days. On Thursday morning there will still be a lot of cloudiness and some showers on the central coast, and in the afternoon the sky will be variable or more overcast in the northeast and the Pyrenees, where some weak, scattered and local showers will be repeated. A situation that will repeat itself on Friday.

Furthermore, showers will continue to fall between the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, locally still with some intense thunderstorms. The north wind will be more intermittent at the ends of the country. On the other hand, the weekend seems to be calmer and quite sunny, but with normalized temperatures.
