ReusAt the end of 2015, the Catalunya Sud ICT Cluster, just over two years old, had been established within the Reus Technology Park ecosystem with the aim of fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors and promoting the competitiveness of the technology sector. It was clear from its inception that its scope extended beyond the city of Reus itself, encompassing the Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre regions, a fact reflected in its name, Catalunya Sud (Southern Catalonia). A decade later, the Cluster brings together around one hundred members, and Reus aspires to become a City of Science and Innovation, while the Technology Park aims to become a Technology District.

Over the past three years, the Catalunya Sud ICT Cluster has accelerated its growth, expanding from around thirty members to nearly one hundred. This has resulted in increased revenue exceeding €1.5 billion, over 17,000 direct jobs, and the entry of European projects. Among the companies with the greatest hiring capacity within the Cluster are Grupo Castilla, Viewnext, Inetum, T-Systems, IPTE, Movertis, Viajes para ti, Etecnic, eAgora, and Proacit.

By 2025, the Catalunya Sud ICT Cluster has set itself the goal of boosting the Camp de Tarragona Metropolitan Area, attracting talent and investment, and consolidating its presence in the Ribera d'Ebre region with the opening of a new co-headquarters. According to data from the Technology Circle, the ICT sector already represents 9% of Catalonia's GDP.

The future Technology and Knowledge District, based on the natural evolution of the current Technology and Innovation Park of the Tecnoparque, has begun to take shape thanks to this active and dynamic innovative ecosystem of networked relationships with the various stakeholders in the region. Its objectives include structuring this innovative ecosystem by strengthening the connection between business and academia, jointly promoting high-impact, transformative collaborative projects in the region, and developing talent.

Among the planned facilities, the construction of the new Reus Innovation Hub building stands out, with offices, laboratories, and other knowledge-related infrastructure. Future plans also include the construction of a hotel, cafes, restaurants, and a student residence.

The Engineering Cluster

The Reus City Council, through its municipal company Redessa, has launched a new Engineering Cluster this year. This initiative aims to connect a key, cross-cutting economic sector with a significant capacity for generating added value and innovation. Engineering firms have gained a foothold in the city due to changes in labor and safety regulations, which have forced many to relocate. Currently, around twenty engineering firms are based in Redessa, employing approximately 200 people across diverse fields, including chemistry, infrastructure, projects and installations, processes, and infrastructure, among others. According to 2024 data from Idescat, this cluster represents 289 companies and nearly 3,997 workers throughout the region.
