"I will always remember the night that all our friendships came out of the closet as bisexual"
The singer Xènia Casado remembers one of the most special nights of her life
Singer Xènia Casado is living this summer in expansion mode: “I’m going to live with my partner and it makes me very happy, it’s the first time I’m going to live with someone I love, the first time my fears of commitment are weaker than my desire to love,” she says. This summer, she assures, “it will be the start of many good things. This summer my musical career will take a turn, and in a few years I will be what Figa Flawas, The Tyets, Julieta or Mushka are now. I will be the new voice of Catalonia, I am already manifesting it”.
All her life, for Casado, summer has been a time of expansion and celebration of life. She finds it hard to choose which has been the best summer night and chooses two. One was the first time she had a party with two boats in a cove near Calella. “There is no better boat than a friend’s. We were all children of workers except two, whose parents lent them the boats so we could see the Perseid meteor shower from the sea, and we couldn’t believe how lucky we were. We had always watched the meteor shower together, lying on blankets in a clearing, and doing it in the middle of the sea was very special,” recalls Casado. There was a particularly funny moment: around two in the morning, suddenly, they heard a very loud noise, like something hitting the water, and a cry of: “Man overboard!” After a few moments they discovered the origin of the sound. “We see a person starting to swim from the mountain towards us: it was our friend Fran, who had just finished working at the pizzeria and had decided to put all his things in a bag and come find us by swimming. It was incredible. Not even in our wildest dreams could we have celebrated such a beautiful and wonderful summer night,” says the singer.
The other summer night that she will always remember was “the night all our friendships came out of the closet as bisexual.” She had already done so a long time ago and felt liberated, and that night was very special because many people in the group managed to recognize themselves as bisexual. “We were celebrating a friendship weekend at my place, which basically consisted of bringing together various groups of friends. One of the nights, almost everyone ended up hugging, crying, because first it was one who came out of the closet, and then another, and another, until we ended up saying, between tears, boys and girls: we are bisexual and we can finally say it! It was very beautiful that so many people reached the conclusion that we had the right to love freely.”
