The day after my friend's wedding we all woke up full of fleas

Roger Casamajor finds it hard to choose the best summer night –“many can’t be explained”–, but there’s one from years ago that he’ll always remember very fondly. “Next year my band, Hysteriofunk, will be 30 years old. When we were 22 or 23 years old, the band's bassist decided he would get married in a hippy style in Ibiza, so we all went to the island from Andorra. When we arrived in Ibiza, it turned out that nothing had been set up at all, so we had to find a way to get everything we needed to have a good rave. We spent all our money on sound equipment, so we ended up sleeping in an abandoned house that was falling apart. The day after the wedding, we all woke up covered in fleas.”

The actor and musician has a very vivid image of his friends spinning electronic music, and of the bassist dressed in white with flowers in his hair entering the water with his partner to formalize the wedding. “It was very special,” he assures.

Casamajor believes that summer nights have a different texture because they are “moments of expansion”. “In summer you go out and it’s time to meet people, go for dinner, listen to music, wear little clothing, feel free… Summer is when the world opens up like a flower,” he claims.

He explains that he started to particularly enjoy summers from the age of 18, when he left Andorra and settled in Barcelona. “I wanted to study at the Institut del Teatre. That’s when I started to make my way and get to know the world, the world of theatre and electronic music. At the raves I discovered a whole hidden subculture. They were a real spectacle with no other intention than to have fun. Now it seems that everything we do has to yield some profit, economic or otherwise, and I think at that time we did things just to have a good time, period,” he reflects.

With his band, Hysteriofunk, they had been playing in Andorra for years, and in Barcelona they also found their place: “We played at the Festes de Gràcia, at Apolo… For a moment it seemed like something big was going to happen, but it was a mirage and then each of us went our own way. Now we are preparing a new album; we know it won’t lead us anywhere but we’re doing it because we have a good time, because we enjoy it.”

Casamajor assures that he doesn't need many things to enjoy: a 12-euro menu, a getaway with the family in a van, or meeting people and making friends while traveling and shooting a film. “We have to find a way to be comfortable and enjoy the moments, because they pass very quickly,” he concludes.
