The Osasuna player for whom Barça and Real Madrid are fighting
Víctor Muñoz has been one of the revelations of the League, having debuted with the Spanish national team
BarcelonaVíctor Muñoz has become one of the standout names in this League. The Catalan, who will not be able to face Barça this Saturday (9 p.m., DAZN) due to an injury sustained this week, is excelling with Osasuna. He arrived in Pamplona from Real Madrid's reserve team for 5 million euros, before breaking out in La Liga. With Los Blancos, he had debuted in El Clásico, at Montjuïc. On May 11, 2025, he played the final minutes of the white team's 4-3 defeat against Barça, also Muñoz's former team, having come through the blaugrana academy. A few seconds after coming on, and with his first touch, he found himself in front of Szczesny, but sent the ball over the bar. A year later, he is one of the wingers Deco has on his transfer list, and Madrid is willing to activate a buy-back clause to prevent him from wearing the blaugrana colors.
The 22-year-old winger has a clause of around 40 million euros. In 35 games, he has scored six goals and provided five assists. He is one of the fastest players in the League, reaching a top speed of 35.45 km/h. Barça likes the player, but the specialized press for Real Madrid assures that the white club has a buy-back clause of eight million euros, as well as 50% of the rights for a future sale. Despite playing for Real Madrid's reserve team last season, Muñoz played for Barça from U12 to U16 level.
He arrived from Sant Gabriel in 2014 and, three seasons later, had to pack his bags. He went to Damm, one of Catalonia's other strong academies. "He was a very complete winger: he could play on the left and on the right, also centrally, and even as an attacking midfielder on occasion. He also contributed a lot defensively. From the first year, he was one of the best in the U19 B team, and in the second year, he was also one of the best in the U19 A team," recalls Genís Sampietro to l'ARA, who coached him in the U19 B team in 2019. Fast, a game-changer in one-on-one situations, and with a great ability to attack space, but shy off the pitch. "He was an introverted, quiet, and very hardworking boy. He was always focused and no coach had to push him: he trained well with everyone and showed ambition."
Damm is a factory for polishing talents, where many footballers who cannot make a career at Barça or Espanyol end up. "I believe he went to the right place. Leaving Barça can generate disappointment, but he found an environment that helped him: a club that takes care of the player, bets on talent, and offers comfort so he can perform. At Damm, he recovered from a complicated year as a cadet at Barça and maintained his motivation. Damm allowed him to regain confidence and demonstrate his level," assesses Sampietro.
Muñoz has stood out so much in the First Division that he has even debuted with the Spanish national team. Luis de la Fuente called him up in March for the friendlies against Serbia and Egypt, and he stood out by scoring against the Balkan team in his debut. An injury to the soleus of his left leg will mean he misses the rest of the League and also complicates his chances of being at the World Cup.
