BarcelonaThe Lakers have reached an agreement to change owners for approximately 12.5 billion dollars, in a deal that would become the most expensive sale in the history of North American sports. The offer to the historic Los Angeles franchise was made by Bob Iger, former executive director of Disney, and Joshua Kushner, brother of Bob Iger, former executive director of Disney, and Joshua Kushner, brother of Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law. The agreement, however, still needs to receive final approval from the NBA's board of governors.

Joshua Kushner is no stranger to big business in sports. The founder of the capital fund Thrive Capital is part of the group of investors studying entering with private capital into a new commercial structure of FIFA, linked to World Cup rights. Now, if the deal goes through, he will take another step in professional sports by becoming an owner of one of the most valuable and iconic franchises in the world.

A record-breaking sale

The operation comes just 14 months after Mark Walter took control of the Lakers for about $10 billion, then a record figure. Now the group led by Kushner and Iger values the franchise at 12.5 billion, 2.5 billion more than just over a year ago. The agreement announced by the parties is still pending the necessary procedures to complete the operation. If it goes ahead, it will once again raise the record for the sale of a North American sports franchise.

New era in Los Angeles

The drums of a change of ownership arrive in full sporting transformation for the Lakers. LeBron James, one of the greatest stars in NBA history, left the team this summer to join the Philadelphia 76ers, while Luka Doncic has become the franchise's main reference. The Slovenian player, in fact, has already celebrated the agreement and has assured that he looks forward to meeting the new owners to start working on the team's future.
