Signings are being made against the clock to make Girona a competitive team again.
The sports management is working on a minimum of five signings while more departures are confirmed.
GironaAfter Girona's 6-0 start to the La Liga season, and after Míchel Sánchez's complaints about the club's planning and the attitude of some of its players, the Rojiblanco transfer market has suddenly accelerated. The club, awaiting further departures, is negotiating the addition of at least five players with the intention of regaining its lost competitiveness. Amidst all the noise, the team also hosts Sevilla at Montilivi this Saturday (7:30 p.m., DAZN), in a match of particular importance because the Andalusians have also failed to score points at the start of the season.
For now, Míchel has fewer players than in the thrashing at Villarreal. Center back Ladislav Krejci has left; Yangel Herrera, also pending departure, is injured; and Bojan Miovski, who was urgently recalled last week, is heading to Rangers, who will pay more than €3 million, variables not included. On the other hand, the arrivals of Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi (Marseille) and Ukrainian forward Vladyslav Vanat (Dynamo Kyiv) are expected in the coming hours. Girona will make a significant financial investment for these two players: it is speculated that they will pay just over €6 million for the former, and for the latter, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Girona paid his €20 million release clause at 3:00 a.m. last night. There is no time to waste.
Sadiq's Uncertainty
The other ongoing deals raise certain questions, especially the one involving Umar Sadiq. The Nigerian, who plays for Real Sociedad, wanted to stay at Valencia, the club he played for last season on loan. But there's no understanding, and the Gipuzkoans want Yangel Herrera, who has asked to leave Girona, which has led them to try to arrange a cash-in exchange that would send Yangel to San Sebastián and Sadiq to Catalonia. The smoke (or not) should not take long to appear.
More cases: the red-and-white club hopes Bryan Gil, whom they recently loaned, will leave Tottenham so they can sign him. Vigo and Las Palmas also point to interest in Fran Beltrán and Mika Mármol, respectively; names that add to a list that never seems to end. They've also inquired about midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, but Liverpool aren't feeling well.
Unexpected Accidents
On the other hand, goalkeeper Juan Carlos has suffered a serious injury in training and could be sidelined for around seven months, so a goalkeeper must be added to the list of needs. So far, Gazzaniga and Krapyvtsov have fueled his concerns with two forgettable performances in the first two matches. The Argentine will return to the starting lineup against Sevilla in a match that must be won by any means necessary if Girona's destiny isn't to start to become truly scary.
