Athlete from Sabadell becomes first Catalan athlete to win a medal at Winter Games
BarcelonaQueralt Castellet has made history at the Beijing Winter Games: she has won the silver medal, the first podium for a Catalan athlete in the history of the Winter Games. Castellet came second in snowboard's halfpipe event this Thursday in Zhangjiakou.
Born 32 years ago in Sabadell, Queralt Castellet is competing in her fifth Games. She scored 90.25 points in her second run –her best– and was 3.25 points behind American Chloe Kim, world champion, who retained her Olympic title. Japan's Sena Tomita (88.25) won the bronze medal.
"I'm thrilled, I'm very happy. It has been an incredible day, I got the medal," said Castellet in statements to the Spanish Winter Sports Federation. "It has been incredible. I started a little badly and then all the nerves got me, but I was able to get the round I wanted in the second round; a round for which I've been working for a long, long time. Many years. I am very happy", Castellet said after winning the medal.
