Pere Romeu's plan B also holds sway in Logroño
A Barça team full of youngsters wins at Las Gaunas with three goals in six minutes (0-3)
BarcelonaWith an average age of 22 and only three players – Gemma Font, Ona Batlle, and Graham Hansen – born before 2000, Barça traveled to Logroño in search of their eighteenth victory in the Liga F. The Blaugrana had to wait until the second half for V-López to score the winning goal (0-3). Pere Romeu – who was missing, among others, Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes, and Marta Torrejón – was able to rest the players with the most minutes and maintain their ten-point lead at the top of the table. Before the match began, the Blaugrana players displayed a shirt in support of Marta – following the loss of her father – and Laia Aleixandri – after it was confirmed on Friday that she had torn the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, which will keep her out of action for around a year.
The vast majority of Barça's matches in the Women's League follow a similar script. An opposing team sits deep in their own half, looking to close down space and find long balls for the forwards to try and surprise the Barça defense. Pere Romeu's team knows that it's a matter of patience, moving the ball quickly, and waiting for the first goal of the game. At Las Gaunas, the script was no different. Salma Paralluelo – who hit the post – Vicky López, and Graham Hansen, among others, tried their luck with shots that failed to get past the Logroño defense and goalkeeper. They couldn't break the deadlock in the first half, but they did right at the start of the second. Vicky threaded a pass to Graham Hansen, who laid it off to Carla Julià, who opened the scoring after a great run from midfield. With the first goal on the scoreboard, the second didn't take long to arrive. A quick one-touch combination between Sydney Schertenleib, Vicky, and Kika Nazareth ended with the Portuguese player firing a shot into the back of the net. Barça found the spaces and managed to hurt Logroño. Graham Hansen rediscovered his form and led Pere Romeu's team at Las Gaunas. The winger delivered another cross from the right flank that the goalkeeper deflected, but Vicky, alert to the opportunity, made it 0-3. Clara Serrajordi also wanted to join the youthful celebration, but her goal was disallowed for a foul by Fenger on Miralles in the build-up.
Two debuts in the League
The match also saw two debuts. Adriana Ranera started for the first time in La Liga. The center-back had already made her debut with the first team. last December at Alavés's ground in the Copa de la Reina (1-6)She played ten minutes in the previous match, but completed the full 90 minutes at Las Gaunas. Maria Llorella, who had played minutes in the summer in the Copa Catalunya final, made her debut in the Barça jersey. This meant that Barça finished the match with four reserve team players, the maximum allowed. Besides the two defenders, Carla Julià and Martine Fenger were also on the pitch. Furthermore, Aïcha Camara and Clara Serrajordi – who have been registered with the first team since this season – were also able to celebrate their contract extensions until 2028 with playing time.
