First Division

Montilivi demands the heads of those in charge of Girona on a dark day.

Levante and two expulsions also destroy Girona, bottom of the First Division

GironaMontilivi, the current territory of the faithful who truly want to suffer for him and with Girona, has ended up angry. In the duel between the bottom of the Primera Division, the Girona team has made it clear that, for now, they deserve the distinction of occupying the bottom spot in the table. Levante has accentuated the wound for Míchel's team with a deserved victory (0-4) marked by two red cards for Atlético players, both clear: Witsel's in the half-hour mark, still at 0-0; Vitor Reis's just after coming out of the locker room, already at 0-1.

There is growing pessimism surrounding Girona, who, when they conceded their third goal, heard firsthand what their fans are thinking. "Board, resign!" was the rallying cry from the stadium, tired of seeing the unstoppable decline of a team that, in two years, has lost its best players. The dynamic that has dragged on between the end of last season, in which they barely missed relegation, and the beginning of this one, in which they haven't won a single game in five matches, coupled with a worrying footballing record, has been filling a glass that's already starting to run over. After the complaints, many people left the field: there were twenty minutes left, but everything had been seen.

Sending offs are no excuse for the fourth defeat of the season, the third in a row at Montilivi. Playing eleven against eleven, Girona weren't superior either; so it's logical to expect that they wouldn't be superior with ten, or even with nine, as has happened. Only a move by Joel Roca, once again the best of his team, attempted to liven up what was a game marked by red, because Levante, newly promoted, looked like a team likely to defeat them. However, the 4-0 scoreline indicates that they have a much more accomplished team than the red-and-whites.

Neither Witsel nor Vitor Reis correctly calculated their impulses in the two actions that finally unnerved the Girona team. The Belgian, with a yellow card, arrived late to a play, stepping on an opponent; the Brazilian went with his foot up in an unfortunate move. The confusion, especially after the second red card, killed a duel with no more story than what Levante wanted to write.

15 goals conceded in 5 matches

Calero's men, who know that every point is precious, took the fast track. In the first opportunity with superiority, Girona's Brugué hit the post. In the second, Etta Eyong beat Gazzaniga. Both finished without much opposition, from inside the box, in full view of the center backs. Girona has many problems, but one of the biggest is defensive weakness. For now, they are too vulnerable: they have conceded 15 goals in five matches, including three red cards.

Álvarez's free-kick after Reyes' red card and the final goals from Romero and Koyalipou were the icing on the cake for the chants against those in charge at Girona. The scoreline could have been even more exaggerated, with many chances missed by the visitors, but the distance between the club and its fans seems as if it couldn't be further. Perhaps football alone won't be enough to put things right.
