Kill me, truck!
Real Madrid has done things so terribly wrong this season that they will be forced, as a divine punishment, to receive the last penance before it concludes: either to give a guard of honor to Barça or the possibility of the culés celebrating the League title in their face. It's choosing between a scare or death, basically. A real "kill me truck" situation.
It will be curious to hear the sports talk shows next week with wise analysts, sycophantic journalists, fans, and former players opting for one of the two options and offering arguments about which hurts more or less. I'll preemptively say that the thesis that giving a guard of honor is an act of sportsmanship and not a humiliation will be one of the favorites for those who choose to lose to Espanyol to avoid going to the Spotify Camp Nou to see Barça sing the victory song, with a draw being enough for them if they get three points in Pamplona. Even more curious is that practically no one bets on Madrid being able to win in Cornellà and Flick's team. It doesn't surprise me: they've earned the distrust through their own actions and haven't even given reasons to cling to the brotherhood of the burning nail.
Real Madrid has offered no resistance in a disastrous April in which they have only won one match, the one against Alavés, out of the six they have played. They lost against Mallorca, drew against Girona and Betis, and said goodbye to the Champions League with two defeats against Bayern. Now all that remains is to assign blame, and Arbeloa has already chosen the referees, a theory that is only bought by the very naive or those who are brainwashed by Real Madrid TV amidst the propaganda, epic music, and ridiculous commentary on controversial plays and Westerns in their programming.
There is also the entertainment route with news about the coach's personal problems with Carvajal and Ceballos, news of new signings that aim to be exciting, or news of new academy prospects who later fall by the wayside or trickle into the first team. And as a last resort, which I do not recommend to divert attention from Florentino Pérez's responsibility, there is the rumor that Mourinho's name is being floated again, because for me, that only brings to mind the idea of an eight-axle, forty-ton truck to end this as soon as possible and suffer as little as possible.
