BarcelonaGetafe's defeat against Lugano in the Conference League (2-5) has opened Pandora's box for the Madrid side. A confrontation between the coach, Javier Bordalás, and the president, Ángel Torres, with crossed statements and an exchange of reproaches. Bordalás fired first by saying that he feels "deceived" and Torres responded later by claiming that "he has more nerve than concrete".
The tensions go back a long way, but everything exploded after the European match, when Bordalás did not mince his words at the press conference. "It is very evident that we are not up to it. Not for three competitions, but not even for one," the coach commented on the squad's configuration. His version is that he had already warned the president in May. "I feel, not frustrated, but deceived in some way because what has been promised to me year after year has not been fulfilled and I am quite angry. I love Getafe very much, I love these fans very much and this is very painful".
The president's response was almost instantaneous. "He has more nerve than concrete. If he signed, it's because he wanted to. In any case, the door is open. If we are so bad, what can we do. This is Getafe," he said in statements to Cadena Ser. "I don't understand what he's doing here if he's unhappy. To say that I deceived him... you have to have a lot of nerve to tell me, after 30 years, that I deceived him. What he needs to do is respect the footballers, just as the footballers respect him." Finally, and far from agreeing with the coach, he considers that Getafe has: "the best squad we have ever had".
