GironaGirona, still punished by the FIFA virus, lived up to the billing of a night against Mallorca that ended with a share of the points (0-0). After a few weeks of victories accompanied by unusual effectiveness but an improvable image, it was against the team that was a priori the most complicated that Quique Álvarez's men earned the respect of the fans and starred in the best minutes of the season; but the attack, which had not failed on other days, misfired.
It is undeniable that, results aside, green shoots are beginning to be seen regularly at Girona. This is the positive side of the shake-up on the bench, which has not only brought fresh air, but has also added a series of forbidden pages to Míchel's catalog. The direct play is an example of this, and only the crossbar prevented Abel Ruiz from scoring the goal of the day after a long ball from Francés. It is not the first time that they have benefited from this useful resource, but it had been gathering dust for a long time from being pushed to the back of the closet.
Montilivi breathed with enthusiasm at the good collective version, led by an omnipresent Izan, but lamented the lack of general accuracy, whether due to a good save by Arnau Tenas from a Van de Beek shot or due to the excess energy of Javier Boñar, who, with the goal empty, sent a certain goal into the stands. Mallorca, which changed its system influenced by the setting and the opponent, was rarely seen, but also enjoyed a notable chance at the feet of Alberto Moreno, who ran into Gazzaniga's reaction.
Empty seats due to restrictions
Before the Catalan team's game lost fluidity and intensity, Quique Álvarez modified pieces; among them, the reference point. Pyshchur came on, who in a few weeks and through dedication has transformed the mockery and irony that surrounded his figure into ovations. The Ukrainian, within seconds of being on the pitch, was alert to initiate a counterattack in which he asked for a penalty, and that was enough for the stadium, emptier than usual due to restrictions in some Girona regions, to follow him.
With everything on the line, Girona never gave up on the victory. They were the ones who came closest to it, especially in three final opportunities from Unai Hernández, Javier Boñar, and Bryan Gil, which Tenas rejected with great agility. They did not take the three points, but they excited and convinced, which in the long run may be more important than a simple triumph.
