First Division

Girona are extremely happy as they win again after 150 days.

Vanat, Arnau and a tremendous show of endurance allow them to stay out of the relegation zone and allow Míchel to breathe.

GironaThere was a time when they won so much that they almost stopped valuing it. But now they needed it like the air they breathe. Only Girona knows how badly they've suffered during the 150 days their penance has lasted. This has been the time they've gone without winning and have been tossing and turning trying to find the reasons that have made them change so much. But at least tonight, they'll sleep in peace. Girona recorded their first win of the season against Valencia (2-1) and are temporarily out of the relegation zone.

Míchel was taking a risk on the day he became the coach with the third most appearances in Girona's history, with 189, tied with Pablo Machín, who watched everything from the sidelines. Both, two symbols of the club, were just a few feet away, suffering for a club they have defended with everything they had. The player from Vallecas, who has gone three matches without losing, will have what he wanted: time.

Unlike other days, Girona found the way to the goal in the most important moments. Without much hesitation, Vanat plucked a dead ball on the edge of the box and directed it into the top corner. Sometimes it's as simple as this: having a striker who scores goals. With the Ukrainian, who already found the net in Vigo, Girona already has it. Although they're missing too many things and the road to survival will be long. When Valencia woke up, immediately after the 1-1 draw, Arnau finished off a set piece and dispelled any ghosts.

Moments of Alarm

The same ones who have gone so far without a win for so many months, completely disrupting the emotional serenity. Montilivi is never calm; not today either, especially when appearances made it seem like the game was under control. Míchel's team, with plenty of examples to their name, can never think so; but when the opponent knocked, they were thrown off balance. Gazzaniga began to spit out chances and resisted the provisional draw with the help of the woodwork on three occasions. Until Diego López caught him out and the stadium looked completely desolate.

We were back on track. But the surprising appearance of Arnau, a miracle amidst the tough road the club is going through, stopped the blow. Then yes: everyone was up on the crossbar, bailing out water by any means necessary. With ten players for twenty minutes after Iván Martín's sending off. With more hands from Gazzaniga. With a foot and a providential head from Vitor Reis. With Portu sprinting like an animal every chance he got. With ten minutes of stoppage time. With a referee who got on everyone's nerves, who also sent off Francés for protesting a decision from the bench. With Míchel biting his nails. And with Girona happy, finally, with the final whistle.
