Esmee dresses up as a magician for Carnival
Barça thrashes Eibar in another party at the Johan Cruyff stadium (4-0)
Sant Joan DespíThe Johan Cruyff Stadium opened its doors to bees, gorillas, and astronauts for Carnival. Barça's mascot, Cat, arrived wearing a superhero cape and mask, and Esmee Brugts dressed as a magician, providing two assists—one to Ewa Pajor and another to Claudia Pina—that helped give them an early lead against Eibar. Patri Guijarro, with a long-range shot, and Irene Paredes, with a header, completed another resounding victory for the Catalan side (4-0). Pere Romeu emphasized in the pre-match press conference the importance of taking an early lead. Barça followed their coach's instructions, and Ewa Pajor opened the scoring after a brilliant through ball from Esmee Brugts. The Dutch full-back had a good spell, also connecting with Claudia Pina for the second goal. Patri Guijarro didn't need any assistance, extending the lead with a shot from the edge of the box. The Balearic midfielder has also become the fifth player with the most appearances in Barça history (361). The Blaugrana came out determined to settle the match quickly after a week without any fixtures.
Before the match began, the Barça players took to the field wearing shirts in support of Laia Aleixandri, who will be sidelined for ten to twelve months after undergoing surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee. Cata Coll will also be unavailable next month after undergoing arthroscopic surgery for a joint blockage in her left knee.
With Mapi and Laia unavailable in defense, the Barça coach used the match to give Aïcha Camara playing time at center back. Marta Torrejón, meanwhile, returned to action at right back on a very special day for the player from Mataró, who played after the death of her father. But it was Irene Paredes who found the net, heading in a corner flicked on by Graham Hansen at the far post to complete another resounding victory for Barça at the Johan Cruyff Stadium. Pere Romeu's team continues its positive run of form – both in terms of performance and results – despite the absences the Catalan coach has to contend with.
