BarcelonaA tragic day for Catalan motorsports. Pau Alsina, a 17-year-old driver from Sallent, died in an accident he suffered on Saturday morning while training at the MotorLand circuit in Aragón. Although he was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent surgery, he was unable to recover from his injuries.
According to the newspaper Region 7, according to family sources, Alsina was thrown over the top of the motorcycle and hit the ground. The impact was so strong that doctors could do nothing to save his life. The procedures for his body to be transported to Catalonia are currently being carried out.
Born in January 2008, the rider from Sallent currently competed with the Estrella Galicia team, where he was one of the debutants in the JuniorGP World Championship. He was considered one of the great promises of Catalan motorcycling and his goal was to reach the MotoGP World Championship, where his great role models were the Márquez brothers and the Espargaró brothers.
Alsina first rode a motorcycle when he was three years old, and at six he was excelling in motocross, a discipline that he would combine with speed trials, supermotard and dirt track. At the age of 11, he made his debut in the Spanish Moto4 Championship, from there in the European Speed Championship and thus until signing for the Estrella Galicia team.
Last season he had finished 13th in the CEV and in this edition he was also 13th in the standings, after scoring points in every race except the first. His best result was an eighth place in Jerez. In addition, he combined the JuniorGP with the Italian Moto3 championship, where he was fourth in the standings after having twice finished on the podium in four races.
In Aragón, Alsina was doing training in preparation for the race to be held at MotorLand next weekend, where a posthumous tribute will be held for the Bagenc rider.
Pau Alsina's death comes just 18 days after Borja Gómez, a 20-year-old driver from Murcia, lost his life on July 3 in an accident while driving on the Magny Cours circuit in France.
