In April, the midfielder rejoined group training, but it wasn't until a month later, in May, when she received medical clearance and was able to return to the field. It was at Camp Nou, in the second leg of the Champions League semifinals against Bayern, with a very favorable score (4-1).
During the final stretch of the season, Pere Romeu and his coaching staff were very cautious in Aitana's return. She needed to gradually gain momentum and minutes to avoid a relapse. The player from Sant Pere de Ribes played in all four matches of a League that Barça had already mathematically won, and therefore, the demands were lower. She had just over fifteen minutes in the finals of the Copa de la Reina and the Champions League. In both cases, she entered with the score in their favor.
Subsequently, she also had minutes with the Spanish national team in the World Cup qualifiers, where she played thirteen minutes against England and half a game against Iceland. This summer, while commentating on some men's World Cup matches for a Mexican television channel, the midfielder was exercising to continue her physical preparation for the next season, as the footballer shared on her social media. Aitana knows this is an important season for her, in which she must be one of the team's leaders, and she wants to be fully available from day one. The idea within the club is that the player from Sant Pere de Ribes can be present for the first league match.
A new era at Barça
Barça began this Monday a new stage with all eyes set on seeing how the team responds to the changes that have occurred in the squad. With the departures of Alexia Putellas, Mapi León, Ona Batlle, and Salma Paralluelo, it will be time for certain players to step forward. This is the case of Kika Nazareth, Vicky López, or Sydney Schertenleib. "A few years ago, the players who had to step forward were players with more experience and older, and right now, they are very young footballers. We have already seen that they are fully prepared to play big European matches, but now they will have to settle in to provide leadership and continuity to the team," assured Pere Romeu at the ceremony for his renewal.
