The Baldiri Awards are back to promote language and the arts in education
The Fundació Carulla awards have a prize fund of 44,000 euros and are aimed at Catalan-language educational centers and projects that, through arts and culture, address current societal challenges.
The Carulla Foundation's Baldiri Awards aim to recognize and promote schools and educational projects throughout the Catalan-speaking world that use culture, the arts, and language to improve and transform society. With the 2025-2026 call for applications, which will remain open until January 26, 2026, the Foundation seeks to reinforce the role of education as a key space for promoting the language and building a critical and cohesive citizenry. The awards have a total endowment of €44,000, distributed across three categories: Baldiri Arts i Llengua (Baldiri Arts and Language), Baldiri Experiències (Baldiri Experiences), and Baldiri Escola Transformadora (Baldiri Transformative School). The Carulla Foundation maintains that language and culture are essential elements for any community and, therefore, must be protected and promoted as rights to be preserved and exercised. Therefore, in this edition, the Baldiri Awards aim to highlight initiatives that use artistic languages in the classroom to promote access to culture and the use of Catalan, fostering the right of children and young people to actively and committedly participate in the cultural life of their community.
"The data indicates that the social use of Catalan is clearly declining, including in schools," says Marta Esteve, director of the Carulla Foundation. That's why the Baldiri Awards are committed "to encouraging educational projects that promote its use through artistic expressions such as theater, opera, and poetry, so that children can play, imagine, and create in our language and connect from a more intimate, emotional, powerful, and transformative place," Esteve explains. Three categories and €44,000 in prizes
The Baldiri Awards are aimed at schools, centers, and educational projects in Catalan-speaking territories—Catalonia, the Valencian Community, the Balearic Islands, Northern Catalonia, and Andorra—and applications are open until January 26, 2026. The Carulla Foundation will allocate a total of €44,000 to artistic projects and classroom experiences related to Language and Experiences.
Baldiri Transformative School
The Foundation recognizes the unique educational center undergoing transformation, with a committed teaching team capable of fostering a critical and imaginative spirit, convinced that working and educating with Catalan culture, language, and the arts becomes a clear driver of change and transformation to address educational, environmental, social, and cultural challenges.
The winning center of the Baldiri Transformative School Award will be chosen from all centers registered for the awards. In addition to receiving a prize of 4,500 euros, the winner will serve on the jury for the 2026-2027 edition.
Baldiri Arts i Llengua
The Arts and Language category award is aimed at new projects—or those with a short implementation period—led by schools or teachers that promote the use of the Catalan language in learning processes and social settings through arts and culture. A total of eight prizes of €3,500 each will be awarded, and the winning proposals will also receive support sessions to facilitate their implementation.
The Baldiri Experiències Award recognizes innovative experiences carried out inside and outside the classroom that respond creatively, through artistic and creative languages, to the various challenges faced by educational centers. In this category, twenty innovative experiences will be awarded, each receiving €600 worth of school supplies from Abacus. How to submit your application?
The Carulla Foundation is seeking courageous, innovative, and creative schools, and teachers with enthusiasm, commitment, and imagination, who prepare children and young people to face the challenges of a changing and contradictory world through art, culture, and the Catalan language. "We know that schools are where small but significant changes begin, and art and culture are a driving force for making them possible," the Foundation states.
To apply, please fill out the form available on the Carulla Foundation website before January 26, 2026. You must choose the corresponding category: Baldiri Arts i Llengua or Baldiri Experiències. To qualify for the Transformative School category, you will have to answer the questions added to the forms for the other two categories.
