Every day we eat and decide. But do we really know what we eat? Surely you will have heard it said that frozen products lose nutrients, that bread is fattening, or that vegetable fats are better than animal fats.
All these are false beliefs related to nutrition that are increasingly present among the population. The proliferation of platforms and the widespread dissemination of information means that users are subject to excessive exposure to fake news.
How do we know what is good and what is not?
Welcome to "No m’ho empasso" (I don't buy it), a new video podcast format from Diari Ara in collaboration with the Government of Catalonia and the Canal Aliments. In "No m’ho empasso" we will debunk frequent myths about food.
Throughout five episodes, professors and researchers from universities and research centers in Catalonia will help us debunk false myths about food based on scientific evidence.
In the first episode of “No m’ho empasso” we will debunk, together with Dr. Francisco Pérez Cano, one of the most repeated beliefs: “is it healthier to eliminate gluten from the diet?”.
Francisco Pérez Cano is a Doctor of Pharmacy, tenured professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology at the University of Barcelona, and director of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Safety Research (INSA).
Let's start by talking about gluten
We want to break down the benefits of a healthy, science-based diet. In the first video podcast –Is it advisable to eliminate gluten from the diet?– and the following ones, we will answer the questions:Is sunflower oil better for frying than olive oil? Are hormones used in chicken production to make them grow faster? Once the best-before date has passed, are foods no longer suitable for consumption? Should the liquid from legumes be completely discarded before consuming them?
Faced with doubts, we will debunk popular beliefs and discover what science really says about some of the most common food-related issues, with clear explanations accessible to everyone so you can eat with good judgment.
