Three slightly injured by the falling of the false ceiling of the Rodalies station of Fabra i Puig in Barcelona
The R4 line trains do not stop at this point until further notice
BarcelonaThree people were slightly injured this Tuesday afternoon when the false ceiling of the Fabra i Puig Rodalies station in Barcelona collapsed. The Medical Emergency System, the SEM, explained that they were two men and a woman, who had to be taken to the Vall d'Hebron Hospital. Renfe, which manages this infrastructure, has decided to close the station for repairs and, as a result, R4 Rodalies line trains do not stop there.
Travelers heading to Fabra i Puig must get off at La Sagrera-Meridiana and continue their journey on the Metro L1 line. Renfe detailed this Wednesday morning that Rodalies tickets and travel cards are already enabled for the transfer.
The director of Rodalies, Òscar Playà, appeared yesterday evening from the Fabra i Puig station itself and expressed regret for the injuries. He also confirmed that the issue was the collapse of the false ceiling. "We immediately closed the station, stopped train circulation, and notified the Fire Department, the Police, and the SEM so they could carry out the necessary actions," detailed the director of the new mixed company Rodalies Catalunya, who described the reaction once the incident occurred as "rapid."
Playà, however, did not want to venture hypotheses regarding the cause of the event, and deferred this explanation to Renfe, which is already conducting an investigation, he said. He also did not give a timeline for reopening. "For the moment [the station] is closed. The trains are running, but they do not stop there. They stop at the next station and from there users can take the Metro L1 line to get to Fabra i Puig," he explained.
Works to remodel the station
The serious incident occurred the same week that Renfe construction work began at the station to improve the lobby. Playa, however, emphasized that the work these days was focused on treating the pavement, which is why he considers that it "should not have any connection" to the ceiling collapse.
