BarcelonaThe second-in-command of the Customs Surveillance Service (SVA), the Tax Agency group responsible for combating smuggling and drug trafficking, was arrested just days before his retirement. According to eldiario.es and sources from the State Tax Administration Agency (AEAT) confirmed to ARA, Francisco Javier Martín Miñana's arrest was carried out by officers of the Customs Surveillance Service (SVA) in Madrid. The judicial investigation is being conducted by a Barcelona court and is related to smuggling, EFE reports.

The Tax Agency has declined to provide further details on the case, claiming that it is under a court order. According to ARA, the arrest took place on Monday and Miñana was brought before a court on Wednesday. Although no official source confirmed whether the judge had remanded him in custody, they did clarify that Miñana has not returned to his job since his arrest. However, sources from the AEAT (Spanish Agency for the Promotion of Public Administration) explain that the administrative procedure to relieve him of his duties will advance in the coming days or weeks, depending on the progress of the criminal case.

Miñana held the position of head of the operational unit of the Customs Surveillance Service in Catalonia. This group is dedicated to coordinating customs surveillance operations at both the investigative and maritime intervention levels. When he was arrested, Miñana had just over a week left until retirement.
