The Mossos deploy more police officers in El Raval after two mass brawls
The two clashes end with five arrests
BarcelonaThe Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guardia Urbana of Barcelona have reinforced their uniformed presence in the Raval neighborhood of Barcelona, especially in the Rambla del Raval area, after two fights in two days have put the police forces on alert. Now there are more public order agents in the area to prevent reprisals of these brawls.
The first confrontation took place on Sunday afternoon, when a group of people were outside a bar on the Rambla del Raval. According to police sources, the bar owner reproached them for their attitude, as they were causing annoyance and noise, and the group left. However, it didn't end there, as the same people returned armed with sticks and started a fight with the bar owner and other neighbors who were in the area. During this confrontation, chairs and various objects were thrown. Finally, the Guardia Urbana made four arrests for tumultuous brawl.
Not even 24 hours had passed since La Rambla del Raval once again became the scene of a new confrontation. On Monday at two in the afternoon, two groups of about ten people per side fought, and according to police sources, the confrontation was apparently without weapons. One of the involved took advantage of the fight to steal a mobile phone from another boy, which is why he ended up arrested.
In this case, the Mossos are not entirely clear about the trigger for the brawl, and they are investigating whether the two confrontations could be related. Meanwhile, there is more public order presence in Raval.
