The main perpetrator of the serious assault on four Mossos d'Esquadra officers in Mariola de Lleida is in prison.

The investigation remains open, so further arrests cannot be ruled out, and the secrecy of the proceedings has been ordered. In fact, the police are reportedly searching for some of his relatives.

According to police sources, the detainee hid in Reus for a few weeks, and when they returned to Mariola, the Mossos d'Esquadra took the opportunity to arrest him. The 36-year-old has around thirty previous arrests, and the courts have ordered him to be remanded in custody while he awaits trial.

The injuries to the officers occurred around midnight, when several officers moved to Mariola, west of the historic city center, when they were alerted to a fight involving around 200 people. The Mossos d'Esquadra eventually withdrew from the scene to reduce tension and treat the injured.
