Renfe dismisses Antonio Carmona, its historic spokesperson in Catalonia
A year ago he was already dismissed as director of Rodalies and now he assumes new functions in the commercial services of the company
BarcelonaThe historic spokesperson for Renfe in Catalonia, Antonio Carmona, has been removed from his position in Rodalies. According to has advanced La Vanguardia and the company sources have confirmed to ARA, Carmona was dismissed a few weeks ago as director of institutional relations, from where he acted as an interlocutor with administrations and the media. Since then, according to the same sources, he has been in charge of new "functions in the commercial services" of the railway operator.
It so happens that Carmona was already removed a year as director of Rodalies, a movement driven by this newspaper. Its functions were then carried out by a new operational director chosen from Madrid, Josep Enric García Alemany, who was also dismissed shortly after due to the crisis in Rodalies. Renfe's management in Catalonia was finally handed over to Òscar Playà, the CEO of Rodalies Catalunya, the new mixed company that will take over the transfer of Rodalies. It was Playà, precisely, who has now decided to dismiss Carmona, according to La Vanguardia.
The same newspaper explains that, at the moment, Playà is still registered as the sole employee of the new Rodalies company. Prior to taking on this position —and subsequently the management of Renfe in Catalonia—, he had served as the general director of TMB's metro network since 2021. Before that, he had also worked at ATM as the director of T-Mobilitat.
The Dignitat a les Vies users' platform has regretted that Carmona has been removed from her spokesperson responsibilities for Renfe and recalled that "she informed us even when giving explanations was not easy".
In a message on the social network X, the platform thanked Carmona for her demeanor. "She always understood that, whether good or bad, information was essential for users to be able to activate a plan B".
