BarcelonaA patient with a serious psychiatric disorder committed suicide on August 22 while waiting in an emergency room at the Terrassa University Hospital, sources from the Terrassa Health Consortium (CST) confirmed, as cited by Efe. The woman had been in the emergency room for two days waiting to be assigned a bed on the psychiatric ward, according to the report. The Newspaper, which has advanced the news.

On behalf of the CST, the consortium that manages this hospital of the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut), the death of the patient is "under analysis" by the Patient Quality and Safety Committee. As for the Department of Health, when questioned by ARA they have declined to provide any information while the case is investigated, and they expect to be able to report on it next week.

The hospital workers have, however, spoken out. The president of the company committee of this consortium, Xavier Lleonart, admitted in statements to RAC1 that the emergency department of the Terrassa Hospital "is at its worst," and assured that some patients at the center had to wait up to five weeks before being admitted. The hospital's company committee has also indicated in The Newspaper that there is a "lack of beds" for hospitalization and acute care, especially in "psychiatry."
