Parlon points out that the Aiguamúrcia fire has been caused
The Firefighters have already stabilized the fire that broke out on Sunday
BarcelonaThe fire burning in Aiguamúrcia since Sunday may have been caused. This is the main hypothesis with which the Mossos d'Esquadra and Agents Rurals are working, according to the Minister of the Interior, Núria Parlon, explained this Monday. In a statement to the media, she assured that "there are indications" that both the fire that remains active and the previous fires that had broken out this week in the area could be intentional. Before, the mayor of Torrelles de Foix, Sergi Vallès, had already supported this thesis.
"It is very clear that there is someone behind it," Vallès had said in statements to RAC1, where he explained that residents detected an unidentified vehicle near the area where the fire started. He also pointed out that, during the early hours of the morning, another fire broke out at a nearby point which he considers could not have been caused by the flames of the first fire. On Sunday, the mayor of Aiguamúrcia, Òscar Sendra, had also expressed surprise at the fire. "It is very strange, because today the temperatures were lower and there was more humidity," he said.
Parlon has not given details about what these indications are that lead the Mossos and Agents Rurals to work with the hypothesis that the fire may have been caused. She limited herself to saying that some samples have already been taken from the areas where the fire reignited, and guaranteed that the objective is to find the person responsible for the flames if it is confirmed that they were intentional.
Fire stabilized
While the causes of the fire are being investigated, the Firefighters continue to work to extinguish it. This Monday, around 7:30 PM, the corps declared the fire stabilized, which has burned about 155 hectares and also affected the municipalities of Querol (Alt Camp) and Pontons (Alt Penedès). Although at noon the emergency services were worried that the afternoon weather conditions would reignite the fire, they were finally able to close the entire perimeter. The forecast is that it can be declared under control during Tuesday morning. The improved situation of the fire has allowed the confinement of several municipalities to be lifted and the 220 people who had been evacuated from urbanizations and scattered settlements in Querol to return to their homes.
A forest fire that broke out at noon in Lladurs (Solsonès) and for a while caused concern about possibly requiring the redistribution of firefighters working in Aiguamúrcia was also declared stabilized this afternoon. Although this fire initially had the potential to affect about 400 hectares, the affected area has finally been only two.
