BarcelonaMore than a year later, Noelia will have to continue waiting for a court decision to receive a dignified death, even though the courts consider that she has the right to it. The High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has issued a ruling rejecting the appeal filed by her father, represented by the ultra-Catholic group Advocats Cristians, to stop the euthanasia procedure that the young woman had authorized by the Guarantee and Evaluation Commission of Catalonia, which is the body in charge of evaluating requests for it. However, and as it already did with another case last April, the high court also recognizes the right of a family member to go to court to stop a relative's dignified death.

The high court supports the young woman's recourse to this benefit, but at the same time legitimizes Noelia's father to continue the judicial process to try to stop her. In fact, Advocats Cristians has already announced that it will continue to file appeals, now in the Supreme Court. The 24-year-old, affected by paraplegia, was due to receive euthanasia in August 2024. Although she is an adult and had completed the necessary procedures, the dignified death procedure was suspended due to the judicial intervention of her father.
